Today’s Horse Racing Tips – 1st January 2022

Major metropolitan meetings are today held at Randwick, Flemington, Doomben and Ascot.

RANDWICK KENSINGTON: RACE 8 @ 4:40 PM

TOOMUCHTOBEAR (1) went very well to win first up when storming home from last to score over 1400m at Randwick. Sure to take good improvement from that run and he looks better placed stepping up to 1550m. Drawn to settle closer and clearly the one to beat. FOR VALOUR (3) has won three of his last four and while up in grade he is unbeaten over this trip and should be prominent from the outset. CANASTA (2) should be right at his top now and will give them all something to gun down from the inside draw. SPEED LEGEND (6) has improved with each run this time in and has drawn to get every chance. Has to be included.
SELECTIONS: Very keen on Toomuchtobear.

DOOMBEN: RACE 6 @ 3:08 PM

HUMBOLT CURRENT (5) worked home and just missed by a neck when second last time out over 2200m at Eagle Farm. That will have brought him to peak fitness and he has a 50 per cent strike rate here. Winning rider Jim Byrne sticks and he gets the favours from the low draw. SMART METEOR (7) scored a mile win at Eagle Farm then ran on to place here last start. Expect he is looking for the longer trip. Hard to knock the consistency of WAPITI (1) with a string of wins and placings. Hasn't missed a place at the journey. Must respect. HAPPY GO PLUCKY (2) hasn't been far away and is race fit now while FASTNET CYCLONE (6) has a consistent record at this trip. Include.
SELECTIONS: Humbolt Current looks ready to strike.

ASCOT: RACE 4 @ 1:25 PM

ACROMANTULA (4) hasn't raced since being nailed in the last stride when resuming back in mid-November. Was a solid favourite there and this is no harder. Will be the one to catch again. GO FORWARD (8) ran right up to favouritism when coasting home in a Class 3 here last start. Shade harder here but up and comer who could measure up. THIS'LL TESTYA (2) hasn't lived up to her early promise but better effort at Pinjarra last time, drawn one and has the claim. Keep in mind. BROOKLYN PIER (3) and DOUBLE JEOPARDY (5) are next best.
SELECTIONS: Acromantula to win. Trifecta 4-2,3,5,8/2,3,5,8.
