Strong fields for return to the Acton Track

Racing returns to the Acton Track on Friday, 23 May and Trainers have given the surface the ultimate vote of confidence with 107 acceptors across the 7-race program.

Six of seven races have full fields plus emergencies at time of acceptances with Canberra Racing Club Racing & Equine Welfare Manager Chris Polglase buoyed by the response.

"Our Polytrack surface has been such a great asset for us over the past seasons. Canberra winters can be challenging but this all-weather surface provides us with a consistent and safe surface for both training and racing through our coldest months." Polglase said.

In the absence of any formal track rating scale for synthetic surfaces, the Club has published data prior to each meeting (Clegg Hammer readings, moisture content and track surface temperatures) which has been well received by participants and the punting public. These readings will again be published through the Club's X account on Friday approximately 2 hours prior to the first event.

The table below shows all the readings from races and trials conducted on the Acton Track since it's installation:

Friday's Wests Rugby Race Day has attracted horses from far and wide with a number of leading metropolitan stables represented, including Ciaron Maher, Joe Pride and Richard & Will Freedman.

In the day's feature, the TAB Federal (1080m) is a strong affair with a fan favourite King Gutho to line up as the top weight.

Further down in the weights, Matthew Kelley's Prophet's Pride has drawn well for her first up assignment, on a surface that she's seen twice for a win and a 2 nd placing.

The inform Coriah Keating, who has recently outridden her country claim, takes the ride on the mare and will likely look to sit in behind a hot speed.
