February Stakes in Tokyo Sunday

One of the two G1 dirt races in Japan will be run at Tokyo's Fuchu course.

It's over 1600m and the current favourite W Heart Bond is the 5yo mare who won the other dirt G1, the Champions Cup, in December.  She's on 2.9 with Sakai, recently returned from Riyadh, on board.  She's been set for this race rather than traveling to the Middle East.

Costa Nova on 3.2 is the defending champ and this year will be ridden by Lemaire.  Last year Rachel King was on board and a history making G1 win for a woman rider.  We love Wilson Tesoro who ran so well in the Saudi Cup last year but rather than confront Forever Young again they have opted to stay home.  He was second in the Champions Cup in a tight photo.  Kawada has the ride.  Third in that race was Ramjet who is o 8.7 with Miura in the irons.

Two others to consider possibly for multiples are Sixpence, whose trainer Kuneida-sensei will retire this Spring so this is his last chance to add to his tally of G1 races. 17.3 is the quote and Tosaki the jockey.  And Sakara Toujours is the mount of Rachel King who has been on a short-term licence in Japan this past month during which she has managed to ride 11 winners from 58 starts.  It's the fourth time she has had a short term licence in Japan and has been able to accumulate around $1.25 million in prize money over that time and currently sits on 12th spot in the jockeys list.
