41st ARC in Riyadh Day 2
One of the issues racing is facing is that of trying to keep and increase the fan base.
Perhaps one of the more interesting approaches is the American Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" series of giving entry to the winners of prestige races in 14 countries outside of the US which means that people in those countries are going to be following to see how their horses perform against the American opposition and thus increasing a global connection.Media coverage that includes streaming makes it easier for younger fans to get involved.
And story telling – information on what goes on behind the scenes and the people involved can be provided in a format that suits the on-line watchers and stimulates their interest.
In Saudi Arabia they are developing plans for a major sports and cultural centre at Qiddiya, about 25 kms from Riyadh, where there will be a new racecourse that will be the future home of the Saudi Cup.
In AlUla, in the northwest of the Kingdom, there is considerable development in matters equine with the FEI World Championships to be held there later this year and while this is focused on eventing future plans will include thoroughbred racing and a major breeding facility.
The different projects are working in harmony with the Saudi 2030 development plan and not competing against each other.
