The Melbourne Mail: Caulfield - 10th of May 2025
We head to Caulfield for this week’s Melbourne Mail.
Tricky day at Caulfield with a couple of horses at each-way odds.
The first bet comes up in Race 6 where Mary Eliza finds a nice race second-up having been completely luckless first up in the Mornington Guineas.
She never got a crack at them there as a $5 chance and comes up a similar price here in what looks a slightly easier race.
She's a well-bred filly out of NZ star Bonneval who looked promising in her first campaign and now drops to 51kg after the claim, drawing well in barrier six.
There's very good speed on paper here so she should set up beautifully midfield and with clear running she can atone for last start.
The other bet on the card I'll be having is Ambassadorial in Race 7. I was against him last start at Moonee Valley but he tried hard there when just going down narrowly, improving on his first up rating to 103, a slight new peak.
At the weights, his last start rating is 3-4 pounds higher than the next best rating, and from barrier one he should have a huge map advantage over the race favourite Saban.
He ran on well first up over 1400m in a good race at Flemington but has little early speed and will be giving Ambassadorial a decent head start.
