Expert Racing Tips - 13th December 2025

Best lay bets in Australia for Saturday, December 13 brought to you by expert form analysts from the Betfair Hub.

Lay bets are an offering unique to Betfair in Australia where punters can bet AGAINST a particular outcome.

THOROUGHBREDS

Randwick: Race 10; #12 Theblade Down Arrow

THEBLADE has been inconsistent at times through his career but despite a last start win, he may be in for a tough run again from a wide barrier. This is his first look at the 1400m trip but from the wide barrier he might be tested if caught out wide. Can win if he can replicate his best but needs every bit of luck he can get.

Pakenham: Race 7; #16 Skippers Canyon Down Arrow

Skippers Canyon will very likely be the best horse to come out of the race but it's just a question of if you can trust him given his barrier manners at the price. I can't and expected him to be more like $6, so I must be against at the price.

HARNESS

Melton: Race 2; #10 Captain Perfect Down Arrow

Massive fan of this horse but not a fan of the draw/map tonight. Looks a risk.

GREYHOUNDS

The Meadows: Race 4; #2 Dewana Star Down Arrow

Dewana Star has opened up well into red figures here and that just seems too short. There's two schools of thought here, he will be much better at his second go at the track and will justify the short quote. Or he was lucky in the early stages here last week and he could have easily got checked seeing he didn't begin as well as he normally does. I am needing Sparring to annoy him enough early that it sets up the race for Whiskey Whiskers to win.

The Meadows: Race 5; #1 Never Ever Late Down Arrow

Never Ever Late looks the obvious leader here. He was ran down at Warrnambool in his last start (admittedly by the G1 Hobart Thousand winner on Thursday night) but I would have liked to have seen him racing a bit more frequently to have the fitness to give a big kick late here. If any of Aston Countach, Mepunga Zircon or Vista Weird can land behind him down the back straight I believe they can run over the top of Never Ever Late in the closing stages.

The Meadows: Race 8; #1 Intrepidus Down Arrow

Intrepidus is going to have to explode out here and push to the middle of the track to avoid some trouble. If Kurnai Bolt also pings out, he could cut off Intrepidus and jam him up on the fence and considering the short price, that's enough to warrant a Lay bet.
