Super Saturday a close thing at Meydan
The meeting managed to finish before any drones appeared but the aftermath has left problems.
Many people involved in the meeting are now stuck in Dubai since UAE Airspace was closed. However there were many interesting races to look back on.
The first of the surprise results came in the first race when French Zelzal filly Piana won for Collery-Pasquier starting at 28/1. True Test 5/2 was second and Sweet Sunshine 25/1 third.
And an even bigger upset in the Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint, a G3 over 1200m, when Native Approach scored at 50/1 for Bin Hammash and Connor Beasley. Run Boy Run was second at 16/1 and Cover Up a neck away third. Favourite Rayevka was 5th.
The G3 Mahab Al Shimal saw a potential champion emerge in El Naseeb who continued his winning ways for Al Mheiri and de Sousa, outrunning Dark Saffron and the rest of the field. Mufasa was third and stablemate Tuz who started a short-priced favourite was out-gunned here and finished 5th. Hong Kong runner Sing Dragon was not totally disgraced but they were too fast for him and he didn't like the surface.
The Singspiel went to Quddwah with Ryan Moore riding for the Crisfords (part of a treble) and Ryan Moore (part of a double) on 3/1 with our roughie Dividend finishing second and Holloway Boy third.
The Crisfords saddled another winner in the Al Maktoum Classic with Meydaan with Buick (part of a double) aboard defeating Walk of Stars 4/1 and Tap Leader third.
Change of silks for Will Buick and he was back in the Godolphin Blue to ride Rebel's Romance to a very soft victory although Fort George fought hard and wasn't that far off in second, with our roughie Burdett Road finishing third.
The Burj Nahar over 1600m dirt was no problem for Commissioner King and a long shot second placer The Camden Boy 14/1 with Hypnus third.
Then the 2000 Guineas was much as we expected with the more experienced Title Role giving the Crisfords their third winner and Ryan Moore his double with Pacific Avenue second and Talk of New York in third.
So now there has to be a BIG question mark hanging over the Dubai World Cup. We can only hope that things settle down soon and the skies clear and people and horses can move around again. It's only a month away.
