Rebel’s Romance to face four Yorkshire Cup rivals
Rebel’s Romance will take on just four rivals in Friday’s Group 2 Yorkshire Cup.
The Charlie Appleby-trained globetrotter hasn't been seen racing in England since finishing third in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes last year.
A winner of the Group 1 Mehl-Mulhens-Stiftung - 62nd Preis von Europa, Breeders' Cup Turf and Amir Trophy in recent starts, Rebel's Romance returns to the UK looking to get back to winning ways following his fourth-place finish when attempting to defend his Longines Dubai Sheema Classic crown at Meydan last month. Charlie Appleby's seven-time Group 1 winner will be ridden by William Buick once more.
Rebel's Romance will have to give 2lb to John and Thady Gosden's Sweet William, who finished behind champion stayer Kyprios for the third time in his career when chasing him home in the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot in October.
Aidan O'Brien relies solely on Continuous as he bids for a first success in the one-mile six-furlong Group 2. The son of Heart's Cry, who sports first-time blinkers, was last seen disappointing when ninth of ten in the Dubai Gold Cup at Meydan last month, while the third-place horse that day, Epic Poet, also takes his chance for David O'Meara and Danny Tudhope.
Andrew Balding's previous course and distance winner Alsakib completes the quintet.
