Classic-winning filly Zarigana retired from racing
Francis-Henri Graffard confirmed on Friday evening that his Classic-winning filly Zarigana has retired from racing.
Owned by the powerhouse operation of Aga Khan Studs, Zarigana won her first two outings as a juvenile before going down by a nose in the Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr.1).
Francis-Henri Graffard's filly kicked off her Classic campaign with a narrow win over Shes Perfect in the Prix de la Grotte before being dramatically awarded the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches in the stewards' room having finished behind the same rival.
The daughter of Siyouni failed to add to her tally in the next two outings, finishing runner-up in both the Coronation Stakes and Prix de la Foret, leaving connections to decide to call time on her racing career.
Speaking to Sky Sports Racing, Graffard said: "She's retiring now. She's been a complicated filly; she has been very frustrating.
"I think she was so talented but difficult. She was tricky. She could have won four Group 1's but she only managed to win one in the stewards' room."
The daughter of Siyouni boasts a lovely pedigree being out of the Listed-winning Frankel mare Zarkamiya, who herself is a half-sister to the mile and a half Group 1 winner Zarak and out of unbeaten multiple Group 1 heroine Zarkava.
