Morphettville Races Review on 10th May 2025
Horseman Michael Hickmott got his day off to a good start when his charge Wine Barron won his first race in twenty-five months in the opening event of 1800 metres at Morphettville on Saturday.
Guided to just his second win from nineteen starts by Ben Melham Wine Barren raced two off the pace.
The Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable were well pleased with the run of Out of Square in the 1050 metre second race.
Guided to victory by Jake Toeroek, Out Of Square was one of the last to begin and came with a strong outside run in the straight to take the event.
The Murray Bridge stable of Daniel Clarken and Oopy MacGillivray were well pleased with the win of Steel Trap in the Group 3 David Coles AM Stakes which was run over 1200 metres.
Having the services of Jamie Melham and coming off a last start second Steel Trap raced in a forward position with a strong run late in the event.
Hoop Ben Melham brought up the second leg of a double when Private Legacy took out the listed Centaurea Stakes of 2017 metres.
Prepared at Warick Farm by Greg Hickman Private Legacy came from the rear of the field with a strong, rails run late in the event.
After running second in the VRC St Leger Litzdeel put the writing on the wall that a win was not far away. In her next run she took out the 2500 metre Group 3 Ken and Helen Smith SA Fillies Classic.
Trained at Flemington by Danny O'Brien and ridden by Zac Spain Litzdeel raced one off the pace.
Regal Azmon made it a double when he took out the Group 3 Cummings Stakes which was run over 1600 metres.
Having the services of Lachlan Neindorf Regal Azmon Came from last on the home turn and with a withering outside run took the event from his stable mate Aaran Bay.
The four-year-old mare Cleo Cat made it two wins in a row when she took out the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes which was run over 1200 metres.
Prepared at Warrnambool by Ton Dabernig and steered to victory by Jordan Childs Cleo Cat brought up her seventh win from eight starts when she led all the way to take out the time-honoured event.
The consistent Reserve Ban k made it a hat-trick of wins when he took out the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap which was run over 1200 metres.
Presenting Jamie Melham with her second win for the day the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr trained Reserve Bank came from well back with a sizzling run late in the event.
The Gawler stable of Arron Bain and Ned Taylor finished the Adelaide Autumn Carnival off in fine style when Metrical took out a benchmark 68 handicap of 1200 metres.
Ridden by Jason Holder Metrical came from a rearward position with an outside run in the straight.
