Race 2: Teardrop Rotation
Teardrop Rotation, from the Chris Bieg camp, was nothing short of electric on return and looks primed for bigger targets this campaign. Despite a strong first-up record (2-0-3) and two sharp jumpout wins, there lingered a slight query over whether she could fire fresh after a 231-day break. That doubt was blown away in emphatic style.
Dragged back to last from the outside draw under Teagan Voorham, the four-year-old D'Argento mare was nearly nine lengths off the leader - and well-fancied Mystic Wonder - at the turn. But once balanced, she unleashed a devastating sprint, mowing down her rivals and still softening late as she cruised past the post.
The early tempo was genuine, yet she still clocked some of the fastest closing splits of the day. That effort made all the more impressive given it came over 1400m, while six other races on the card were run at sprint trips (≤1250m).
Returning with a career peak on the Racing and Sports scale, Teardrop Rotation now looks set for higher honours. The Bieg team have largely kept her to sprints across her first 12 starts, but on this evidence, it would be a surprise if they don't stretch her to 1600m and beyond.
