Run over two and a half miles, the race attracted eight runners following the withdrawal of Kala Conti. Held up towards the rear for much of the contest, Fleur In The Park was produced with a well-timed late run and finished powerfully to beat joint-favourite Kappa Jy Pyke by two and three-quarter lengths. Jimmy Du Seuil was a further three and three-quarter lengths back in third.

The race was marked by a series of incidents. Sixmilebridge, who started as joint-favourite, forced the pace early on but his challenge was undermined by repeated jumping mistakes. Pure Steel exited at the third-last after a serious error unseated Mark Walsh, while Predator’s Gold fell under Paul Townend and brought down Western Fold.

There was also late interference approaching the final fence, where Jacob’s Ladder shifted across and compelled Fleur In The Park to alter course. Even so, the winner responded in decisive fashion, jumping the last notably well before quickening clear to seal an unexpected but thoroughly convincing success.
