Al Qareem delivers for Lee on emotional return

Al Qareem made a winning return to action in Saturday’s Goliath Cup Stakes at Musselburgh, giving Clifford Lee a notable success on his second day back in the saddle after returning from serious injuries suffered in a motorbike accident in October 2025.

With the Goliath Cup Stakes enjoying it’s first year at Musselburgh (formerly the Further Flight Stakes at Nottingham), Al Qareem showed his trademark toughness to beat Mount Atlas by half a length and record the thirteenth win of his career. Racing prominently throughout, the seven-year-old found plenty when challenged late on the inside, digging deep to repel his rival and secure victory.

The victory was another reminder of Al Qareem’s consistency as a high-class staying performer. He enjoyed an excellent 2025 campaign, with wins in the Barry Hills Further Flight Stakes at Nottingham, the John Smith’s Silver Cup at York and a history-making third straight success in the Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot.
