Morphettville Races Review on 27th April 2025
The seven-year-old Regal Azmon gave trainer Phillip Stokes the first race on the first day of the Autumn Carnival which was run over 1600 metres at Morphettville on Saturday.
Piloted to victory by Lachlan Neindorf Regal Azmon came from a near last position with a strong run over the concluding stages.
Legacy Bound made it two wins from two starts when he took out the Group 3 Breeders' Stakes of 1200 metres.
Prepared at Cranbourne by Robbie Griffiths and having the services of Mark Zahra Legacy Bound led all the way.
Watchme Win gave SA its first major win for the Autumn Carnival when he won the Group 3 John Hawkes Stakes which was run over 1100 metres.
Prepared by Andrew Gluyas, the Jason Holder ridden Watchme Win was in a handy position throughout the event.
Trainer Phillip Stokes landed the second leg of a double when Athanatos won the Group 3 Chairmans' Stakes which was run over 2000 metres.
Having the services of Daniel Stackhouse Athanatos came from a midfield position with a strong run late in the race.
Reserve Bank made it two stakes wins in a row when he took out the 1200 metre Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes.
Being under the care of Mick Price and Michael Kent (Jnr) the Blake Shin ridden Reserve Bank was seen running on from a midfield position and is now likely to have his next start in the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap in a fortnight.
Zloties landed her third win in a row when she took out the Group 3 Queen of the South Stakes which was run over 1600 metres.
Coming out of the Flemington stable of Graham Begg the Jordan Childs ridden Zloties came from a midfield position three wide with a withering run to take the event in a photo finish and give Graham Begg his first winner in SA.
Flemington trainer Glen Thompson brought up his first Group1 success when Benagil won the Group 1 Australasian Oaks which was run over 2000 metres.
Presenting Mark Zahra with his second win for the day and his second success in the Oaks Benagil came from the back half of the field and powered home over the concluding stages.
Mark Zahra brought up his second Group 1 success in a half an hour and his third winner for the day when Charm Stone took out the Group1 Robert Sangster Stakes which was run over 1200 metres.
Bringing up a training double for Mick Price and Michael Kent (Jnr) Charm Stone came from well back with a strong run over the concluding stages and will now have her next start in the 1200 metre Group 1 Goodwood Handicap on May 10.
Trainer Phillip Stokes brought up his third winner for the day when Beauty Rising took out the 1200 metre final event.
Piloted to victory by Tom Stockdale Beauty Rising was an all the way winner.
