Keep an eye on SA: Morphettville blackbooker
James Tzaferis has spotted on from racing in Adelaide on Saturday.
Race 8: Major Rumble (5th)
Given the track was as heavy as it's been at Morphettville for some time, punters should be cautious when assessing the form of horses coming out the meeting. The Lightning Stakes is one such race where the form will likely be tested in other feature races over the coming weeks and months.
Take nothing away from the winner Cicala, who continued the unbeaten start to her career with a gritty win. She posted the best closing sectionals and there's little doubt she is the horse to follow out of the race.
But I'm also keen to stick with Major Rumble, who finished fifth, almost seven lengths from the winner. He was lining up for only his second start and stepping straight from a midweek maiden to Stakes company.
He had the back of the winner at the 600m but just couldn't match her finish in the H10 conditions. I suspect his wheels were spinning in the going but he was solid enough late once he was balanced up.
With a rating of 60, the son of Capitalist is eligible for much easier races. With the benefit of the run and perhaps back onto a track rated in the Good too Soft range next, he can be winning and I imagine he's a horse that can go through his grades as a four-year-old.
