Race Preview
Morphettville – 1st November 2025
Best bets for the ten-race card at Morphettville on Saturday.
While racing in Adelaide on Saturday doesn't rival the Derby Day program in Melbourne, there is a bumper 10-race card with some young, progressive types looking to stake their claim for spring glory.
I'm keen to bet early and I'm sticking with a horse that has already been good to me this spring in Guru Warrior, who lines up as the odds-on favourite in Race 1.
The Andrew Gluyas-trained gelding is undefeated in three runs at 1950m or beyond, including a heart-in-mouth win last time where he appeared set to win by a big margin before hanging out sharply in the final furlong.
He stays at the extended 2000m trip and faces only six rivals on Saturday. Jason Holder can sit back, watch the race unfold and come with the last crack.
At $1.80, he's no spoil but I think he'll win comfortably and he might be a good anchor leg for multis.
As far as value goes, I'm having something each-way on Surprise Coming in Race 6 at around $6. The Mick Huxtable-trained gelding is third-up to 1600m and looks ready to peak.
He finished less than a length off the winner over 1200m fresh, then sat three-wide without cover for the entirety of a strong 1400m race last start, sticking on OK to finish midfield.
Kayla Crowther, who has won twice from three rides on the horse, hops aboard and he's drawn barrier three so he maps to get the perfect run just behind the speed. I'll be surprised if he doesn't finish in the money.
