Clyde Leck returns to action with a win

Clyde Leck returned to action for the first time after recovering from a fall and wasted no time getting back to the winner’s circle with a popular win on newcomer Tycoon Bosss in the Open Novice event over 1275m on the No. 2 track at Sungai Besi on Sunday.

After all the favourites in the first eight events of the afternoon fell by the wayside in the yielding going, the Street Boss galloper's win in the set-weight event was a scant consolation for punters – Street Boss returned RM6 on the win tote.

The Australian gelding was sold for A$180,000 at the Easter Yearling Sale but for some reasons, went through the ring again at the New Zealand Ready To Run Sale several months later and was knocked down for NZ$160,000.

Tycoon Boss  did not race at two but showed his potential with a win at Trentham and three minor placings in as many starts at three.

With his price tag and a proven record in New Zealand, Tycoon Boss was the only one seriously back in today's race and he duly obliged.

Tycoon Boss won the battle for the early lead to show the way by half a length from last-start all-the-way winner Koondakaara with Pantong another half a length away as the field settled down.

Tycoon Boss broke away at the 800m to lead by two lengths from Koondakaara with Good Luck Boss joining Pantong on his inside next.

Tycoon Boss led by three lengths from Koondakaara going into the straight with a similar distance to Pantong.

Although Koondakaara was rapidly closing the gap in the final 100m, Tycoon Boss held on under hands-and-heels riding to win by a neck. Pantong was 2-1/2 lengths away third.

"The horse (Tycoon Boss) was always a special one," said Clyde.

"He showed a lot of ability the moment he landed here and based on his records, we knew he was something else."

Tycoon Boss is trained by his dad Charles.

"This was his first start today and he will definitely improve further.

"It was a really armchair ride for me and a satisfying win, getting back to the saddle after two months since my fall.

"Happy to be racing and happy to be back in the winner's circle."

Clyde was disloged from Pacific Soldier soon after the start in Ipoh on Sep 20 and suffered a broken foot as a result.

The final two races today were abandoned due to inclement weather.
