TRIAL POINTERS
ROSEHILL January 2: In the fastest 1030m trial (61.02; 34.32) runner-up WHINCHAT could have won the heat if asked for a late effort. Rarely has he not led in his trials but he was ridden off the pace in this heat and was under a big hold working strongly to the line over the last 200m. Noteworthy efforts from runners having quiet trials in their heats included LIPSTICK and NANDINA.
ROSEHILL December 23: Classy filly AKAYSHA has freshened up nicely since her strong spring campaign. Had plenty to offer finishing off under a hold for second in her 900m open heat (55.32; 34.04). Written Tycoon 4YO VERLANDER was having just the second trial since his only start as a 2YO in 2024. Showed the benefit of his placing in a Canterbury trial on December 2 to work strongly through his 900m heat in good time (54.70; 34.50), doing his best work as he forged away over the last 200m to score by 3.5 lengths. NORTH ENGLAND continues to work towards his return to racing, being put under pressure to win the fastest 900m heat (53.31; 33.59). A good class 1030m heat (60.15; 34.18) saw a nice effort from LA ROJA.
RANDWICK December 18: A number of maidens gave notice of good things to come. Eye catchers included PAZYRYK.
