WARWICK FARM March 30

Inside Grass; Soft 6

15 Heats – 3 x 1208m (2 Open; 1 C1/Maiden); 4 x 821m (3 Open; 1 2YO); 4 x 818m (3 2YO; 1 3YO); 4 x 816m (4 Maiden)

Expect the 2YO and maiden trials to be the source of some good future winners.

The G1 stars FANGIRL and PRIVATE EYE improved on their recent first-up trials with more positive efforts. FANGIRL looked on song working home nicely for fifth in her 1208m heat won by Royal Patronage (72.82; 35.41) while PRIVATE EYE was warming to his work late when fourth in his 821m heat won by the impressive FLYING FOR FUN (49.02; 33.54).

BARRACKS (Ciaron Maher): Promising 2YO was beaten at short odds on debut but is worth following after another classy trial. He's a big youngster by sire of the moment Home Affairs and strode out boldly as he came from off the pace for a soft win in his 818m heat (48.49; 34.42) where the unraced runner-up WHITEHALL also showed good potential with his late work.

FLYING FOR FUN (Bryce Heys): This classy 4YO mare is just like her name suggests as she is in flying form. Travelled sweetly outside the leader in her 821m heat (49.02; 33.54) and was held back to them over the last 200m for the softest of wins, looking very keen as she cruised through the line in a sure sign she has trained on well since her impressive G3 win at Rosehill.

MRS MAREE (Clarry Conners): Her veteran trainer has been very patient with this maiden mare after several interruptions to her career but his patience should be rewarded as her recent trials indicate she is in the form to win races. Trucked through her 816m heat (48.04; 33.95) travelling wide under a big hold from start to finish and having plenty in the tank coasting through the line. Keep an eye out for CANJUSTIFY in a suitable maiden after his eye catching fifth in this heat.

In other 1208m trials MOGUL MONARCH had no trouble leading from start to finish with easy work in the fastest of the 1208m heats (71.84; 35.44) while the import ELEVEN X, a winner over 1400m in Ireland, is one to follow after his impressive second in the C1/Maiden heat (74.04; 36.53).

CREPE MYRTLE is racing well and looked strong holding an advantage to win a strong 821m heat (48.73; 33.94) where BALKANS and SURFIN' BIRD look open to plenty of improvement on their easy efforts.

Other 2YOs to capture attention included CIARON'S STAR, GIRL ABOUT TOWN, DR KNOW while maidens showing bright promise included the heat winners COLD GIN and EVENTS.

RANDWICK March 27

A Grass; Soft 7

12 Heats – 1 x 1200m; (Open); 6 x 1050m (4 Open; 1 2YO; 1 Maiden); 5 x 745m (2 Open; 2 2YO; 1 3YO)

The open heats over 1050m featured some of our best sprinters tuning up for the Randwick carnival.

OVERPASS was his old self leading out in his 1050m heat (65.01; 35.63) but was ridden along to win the trial and still looked short of peak condition. Talented filly AKAYSHA was the one taking the eye with her late work to the line to finish second while Perth star JOKERS GRIN was a solid third after showing more intent than in his first Sydney trial. Gun 3YO TENTRYIS had an easy time settling in the back half and not asked for a serious effort while making ground under a hold over the last 100m to finish sixth.

Newmarket Handicap winner CABALLUS was the star of the fastest open heat over 1050m won by NEPO BABY (64.32; 35.20). He wasn't ridden for speed and settled an easy third before working home with plenty in reserve for a soft third, showing he has held his form well since his G1 win at Flemington.

Others making an impression in the 1050m heats were the smart Melbourne filly MEDICINAL winning her 2YO trial with authority (65.85; 35.41) with the talented WOLF GAP a strong fourth. SAMARELLE finished strongly for second in her heat 65.89; 35.42) while MISS FREELOVE surged home from the back for an impressive win despite the slow time in her heat (67.00; 35.71).

OUR KOBISON (Angela Davies): A classy win in his 745m heat (45.37; 34.63) by this talented Gosford-trained sprinter backed up his recent trial win at Wyong and confirmed that he on track to regain his early form. Set a strong pace in the lead while tracking wide and easily held his advantage to the line to score by 3.75 lengths.

The Waterhouse/Bott stable won the other four heats over 745m with SLY BOOTS (45.94; 35.01), SUPERMASSIVE (44.72; 34.29) and the 2YOs HOME INVASION (44.79; 34.15) and LUMBINI (44.89; 34.17). The 2YOs to take the eye in these heats included BELVANTE producing a flashing finish for second to Home Invasion and GRIDLOCK and KING OF THE NILE having easy trials behind Lumbini. ESTREMO had plenty in reserve through the line in the 3YO heat won by Supermasssive.
