Scholtz's Say
Trial Watch Reviews - 23rd December 2025
Chris Scholtz reviews Sydney trials at Rosehill and Wyong on December 23.
Inside Grass; Good 4
14 Heats – 4 x 1030m (1 Open; 3 C1/Maiden); 10 x 900m (2 Open; 5 2YO; 3 Maiden)
Some good talent at this session where Bjorn Baker won five heats and the Waterhouse/Bott team landed four.
AKAYSHA (Peter Snowden): Classy filly has freshened up nicely since her strong spring campaign. Had plenty to offer finishing off under a hold for second in her 900m open heat (55.32; 34.04) won in good style by another smart filly O' OLE.
HAPPY BELLIE (Bjorn Baker): Lightly raced 4YO mare by I m Invincible has been off the scene since her maiden win in March. She's had three good trials since November and this impressive win in the fastest 1030m heat (60.91; 34.48) has her primed to resume. Took control from the start and put a gap in them when she let down off the turn, coasting home by more than five lengths.
PROFITABELLE (Bjorn Baker): Some sort of a debut trial by this Profiteer filly. Slow to find her legs, she was last and 10 lengths off the leaders at the 600m before going widest on the turn. She unleashed a fast sprint from the 350m to the 100m seldom seen in 2YO trials with her momentum carrying her to an impressive win in fast time (54.64; 34.62).
VERLANDER (Hawkes Racing): Just the second trial for this Written Tycoon 4YO since his only start as a 2YO in 2024. Showed the benefit of his placing in a Canterbury trial on December 2 to work strongly through his 900m heat in good time (54.70; 34.50), doing his best work as he forged away over the last 200m to score by 3.5 lengths.
Good mare MONTE KATE has now won two trials since her transfer to Bjorn Baker. Good work to win her 1030m heat (60.15; 34.18) with nice efforts behind her from LA ROJA, EYE OF THE FIRE and SHANONI.
NORTH ENGLAND continues to work towards his return to racing, being put under pressure to win the fastest 900m heat (53.31; 33.59).
Other 2YOs to impress included the heat winners THYME TO GO and WENDELL. I Am Invincible filly THYME TO GO posted the fastest time in the five 900m juvenile heats (54.28; 34.06), showing excellent natural talent with her pace and strength over the last 200m.
