HAWKESBURY December 15

Course Proper; Good 4

15 Heats – 6 x 1000m (2 Open; 4 Maiden); 9 x 800m (2 Open; 2 2YO; 5 Maiden)

The 2YO trials generated most interest with the classy TORNADO VALLEY winning his heat on his way to the Magic Millions.

The G3 Maribyrnong Plate winner did all that was needed to win his 800m heat but the other 2YO trial winner STEEL WILL is one to follow after posting much quicker time.

An unraced 3YO filly by Snitzel also made an impression with her maiden heat win over 1000m.

READY FORCOCKTAILS (Hawkes Racing): A Flemington jumpout winner in July, this unraced Snitzel filly has abundant potential after winning her 1000m heat (60.63; 34.23) with authority. From third on the rail she eased across heels at the 300m and was under a tight rein from Tyler Schiller as she strode easily past the leaders to score by more than two lengths. Just wait for her astute stable to find the right maiden.

STEEL WILL (Chris Waller): Excellent improvement by this I Am Invincible colt from his debut second in a Canterbury trial behind the impressive Paradoxium to win his 800m heat in fast time (46.98; 33.10) despite the efforts of Zac Lloyd to give him an easy trial. He was full of running behind the leader from the 500m but it wasn't until the last 100m that Lloyd gave him clear air. His response to surge past the leader stamps him as an above average colt.

The Ciaron Maher-trained TORNADO VALLEY sat four wide in his 800m heat and there was plenty of merit in the way he had them covered over the last 200m under an easy ride from the Irish jockey Adam Farragher. The time was much slower than STEEL WILL (47.91; 33.88) but it's obvious he is a quality youngster.

The fast open heat over 800m heat won by Platinum Gift (46.45; 32.77) had plenty of depth with the strong placings under quiet rides by the talented pair ROSELYN'S STAR and CIGAR FLICK setting them up nicely for coming races.
