The BYD Quokka 2026: Jedibeel Runner Profile
Trackside NZ and Perth Racing select Jedibeel for The BYD Quokka.
Following a narrow defeat in the Group 1 The Galaxy, Brad Widdup's stable star Jedibeel has been selected to run for Trackside NZ and Perth Racing in The BYD Quokka (1200m) on April 18.
The son of Savabeel hasn't won in over 12 months, though he's run right up to his peak on two occasions when beaten in photo finishes.
He was narrowly edged out by subsequent Winterbottom Stakes winner Libertad in the Victory Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm last May, running to 115 with Racing and Sports.
Jedibeel ran right up to that effort in The Everest as well, beaten 3-1/2 lengths, before running to 116 most recently in The Galaxy when edged out in a photo finish.
What makes his run in The Galaxy important is the speed of the race. With just a moderate tempo on offer, Jedibeel had plenty of work to do after settling at the tail of the field and ran his last 600m in a slick 33.6 seconds in soggy conditions.
It's important to note that Jedibeel jumped well on that occasion and was snagged from the wide draw, so if he draws an inside barrier on April 18th, then expect him to sit closer than he did in The Galaxy.
Jedibeel finds himself up the top of the RAS Ratings for those confirmed for The BYD Quokka. With Caballus and Jigsaw both 118 and Rey Magnerio rated 117, the six-year-old will force his rivals to be at their best or he'll be ready to strike third-up into the campaign.
Even with the Roma Cup still to be run, expect to see Jedibeel hold his spot at the pointy end of the market with barrier draws and tactics to play a big role in his starting price on April 18.
Currently a $9* chance with TABtouch, it feels about right at this stage, but it wouldn't surprise to see him jump a shorter price if the barrier gods are kind.
*Prices correct as of 12pm, March 31st.
