Racing returns to Pinjarra on Saturday with the running of the Beaufine Stakes down Pinjarra's straight course.

As of Thursday, the Pinjarra surface is rated a Soft 7 with some heavy downpours in WA, though we may see some improvement into Saturday's meeting with fine days expected on Friday and Saturday.

The Beaufine Stakes has more layers than it appears on the surface.

At the top of betting, we have the improving 3YO Repossession who has bettered his peak rating in back-to-back wins this campaign, both over this course and distance. He's not only the one on the up, he's also the weight horse in the race as he drops down to the minimum with Brad Parnham back in the saddle. While he's a classy customer, he's up against some proven commodities who will test Repossession.

Wild Belle is a double-figure chance and comes into this without a public trial after a disappointing campaign in Victoria last year. The booking of Chris Parnham suggests shye's ready to fire though and if she's close to her best on resumption, she's in with a chance. The same could also be said for the likes of Baby Paris, who draws ideally on the straight course own the outside, and Gemma's Son who looks back on song with a couple of nice trials coming into this.

This is different to what Repossession has seen thus far, though his profile suggests he's more likely to improve than drop off.

Not usually one to bet into longer races full stop, however FOREVER BOY grabs my attention in Race 4 on the card.

The gelding was narrowly edged out on a Heavy deck at this course and distance a fortnight ago and it took a progressive type to edge him out. There's nothing like First Encounter in this event, and while there are some handy types, his recent figure is clear of his rivals. He'll need some luck from the barrier, but CJP knows him well and it wouldn't surprise to see him go up a notch with another run under his belt following a long layoff. Currently better than even money, but he has odds-on written all over him.

Happy to go back to the well with MONEY TREES in Race 3 as well after a flat run on the heavy track last time out.

While it is expected to be rain affected on Saturday, a firmer deck than last start awaits and his form prior over this trip was great. He still has plenty of improvement up his sleeve and I'm happy to forgive one poor effort with a clear excuse. Winkers go back on, and he can return to winning ways.
