Best Bets for Quokka Day at Ascot.

We've reached the crescendo of the Ascot racing season with the Karrakatta Plate, The Quokka and The Joey highlighting a jam-packed day of racing in the west.

The rail is in the 3-metre position and a lovely day of 23 degrees is expected in Perth on Saturday, with the track rated a Good 4 on Thursday morning despite some rainfall on Wednesday.

I won't touch on The Quokka too much as my good friend and colleague Trent Crebbin has written a detailed preview of the great race, which you can find here!

But, for what it's worth, I'm in the corner of OVERPASS who looks to make it three wins in The Quokka and extend his unbeaten streak in WA.

Front Page can give a big sight and do country NSW proud, while Jokers Grin is my pick of the local talent in the $5 million feature event.

The Karrakatta plate doesn't seem as straight forward.

While the filly's looked to have a handle on the boys, Castle Road came out last start and bolted in to win the Perth Stakes, putting up a figure to match the likes of Yes Queen and Talkanco. That was relatively out of the blue for Castle Road though and the question will be whether he can go on with the job, but there's plenty in his favour to suggest he can repeat the dose. Yes Queen spotted Talkanco a start in the Gimcrack last start and almost gunned her down, clocking some fast splits in the process.

The way the race looks to play out should suit Yes Queen, who has drawn alongside Talkanco and Pike won't give his main danger as much of a head start in her Grand Final.

Just Too Fly may be a flyer at odds. He seems to have a bit of substance to him and 1200m looks right up his alley, plus with a hot speed expected, he should get a lovely run just in behind that tempo.

Let's chat Best Bets now, and we'll head to The Quokka's consolation, The Joey where SALOON BAR makes plenty of appeal.

He comes through the main Quokka lead ups in the Rock Magic Stakes and the Roma Cup, but The Joey has always been the target for Dan Morton's charge.

Saloon Bar has clocked sharp sectionals in both runs this time in and barrier seven gives Pike a chance to blend into the race and not be too far off the speed on settling down.

He ran a huge race in The Quokka last year and if he can run up to what his sectionals are telling us here at Racing and Sports, he'll be very hard to hold out.

Earlier in the day, BE BARDOT looks an easy bet to have in race three.

She had no luck two back before an impressive victory over the mile last time out, running home over the top in fast splits to win easily.

Up to 1800m doesn't look an issue from what we've seen recently, and she looks on an upward trajectory, as opposed to most of her rivals.

Memory Parade is the main danger coming back in grade, but with a swing in the weights to Be Bardot and her improvement that could still be to come, that makes her an attractive proposition.
