Staking Strategy: Devonport - Sunday, 13th July 2025

The Devonport Racing Club host their final meeting of the 24/25 season with an eight-race card on Sunday.

Racecourse : Devonport (Australia).
Racecourse : Devonport (Australia).

The first event is scheduled to run at 12:09.

R1 Ladbrokes Quick Multi 2yo & Upwards Maiden, 1009m

Wolf Junior (9) returns from a break and looks set to run well. His trial win was good in quick time. Only the impressive Mazzini ran a faster heat. ALPINE DAME (5) went close to winning here on debut on Devonport Cup Day. A repeat of that effort goes close but the wide draw is a negative. REDAIR (10) and LA ZAMPA (2) were well beaten by a smart winner last time. Both have drawn to advantage and back to the 1009m suits. ALPINE WOODS (6) is on debut, didn't mind her latest trial.

Staking Strategy: Wolf Junior trialled well and looks very hard to beat first up. Alpine Dame the danger. 4 units to win WOLF JUNIOR (9). 2 units to win ALPINE DAME (5)

R2 Goodstone Group 2yo & Upwards Maiden, 1650m

On paper there are at least half a dozen runners that are likely to be pressing forward at the jump so am leaning to those that can park off the speed and be strong late. Opensea (3) fits that profile. He was good first up, doing his best work late in a slowly run race. Big tick for him stepping out in distance. GEEGEE AUNTY JESS (8) has produced 5 placings from 6 starts this prep and deserves to break through. She's going well. SIENA WOLF (11) hasn't missed top 3 this track in 4 tries and gets to the 1650m for the first time but does look suited. SKELMORLIE (12) is consistent and from the good gate has to be included amongst the chances. ALPINE TROUT (1) has been trying to win one of these for a while and is in the mix.

Staking Strategy: Opensea was solid first up and extra distance suits. Geegee Aunty Jess is racing consistently and won't be far away. 1 unit to win OPENSEA (3) and GEEGEE AUNTY JESS (8)

R3 The Stables At Spreyton Benchmark 60 Handicap, 1650m

Kireina Marubrah (3) was well beaten but far from disgraced behind Earendel here in track record time last outing. Draws to either lead or sit handy and will get her chance. ROMANESCO FRESCO's (13) last effort was forgivable, sitting outside the leader in a race that was put on for the backmarkers. The run prior was good. THE LONGEST YARD (1) had all the favours last week to make it back-to back wins. Rises sharply in weight but can't knock winning form. SKY LAND (5) was left in front too soon at Hobart and was a sitting shot, maps for a better run here. LI'L HAIL MARY (4) is going okay but hasn't won for around 15 months and needs plenty to go right from the wide gate. EMMJAY (14) is on the 7-day back-up, value chance.

Staking Strategy: Romanesco Fresco had no peace up on the speed at het latest and at a decent price is worth another chance. 2 units each-way ROMANESCO FRESCO (13)

R4 Memberships Now Available Benchmark 60 Handicap, 1350m

Hoax (7) made quite an impression here in her 2yo season then went to the mainland but she failed to strike a blow over there. Can improve sharply. GEE GEE CAN WIN (1) clearly wasn't suited back in distance last start and all things considered he ran okay. This is more to his liking. ADACHI (6) is going well for the new stable, running on solidly first up then chased a strong tempo at Hobart and stayed on soundly. ALPINE BLAST (10) maps for a great run again but had every conceivable chance last time. NIGHT ACTION (4) will benefit rising in trip. He was okay first up and he was unable to build momentum at a crucial stage.

Staking Strategy: Adachi looks tough to beat third run back and Hoax has to be respected returning from Victoria. 1 unit to win ADACHI (6) and HOAX (7)

R5 Tasmanian Horse Transport Class 4 Handicap, 1350m

Fighting For Gold (2) is a handy mare resuming and is more than capable of taking this out first run back from a spell. Awkward gate the obvious query with her. PASHEONA's (6) is in the mix. Her form is better than it reads. She's going well and extra trip suits. GARCON D'ESPOIR's (1) first up win had plenty of merit after covering ground. This is tougher but has the gate to get the gun run and rates highly again. BAYBOUGG (4) has been plagued by bad gates of late and draws poorly once more but has a case. CAPITAL CHEVAL (3) makes own luck and will strip fitter. He was 42 days between runs last start when a fading fourth behind WHIPPIN PICCADILLY (5), who saved every inch of ground in the run.

Staking Strategy: Fighting Gold has come up good each way odds. Just needs even luck from the gate. 2 units each-way FIGHTING FOR GOLD (2)

R6 Kevin Sharkie Class 2 Handicap, 1150m

Zoete's Rock (5) is racing well for the new stable. Did a good job to win here 14 days ago given the leaders didn't go overly hard. He ran a quick last 600 and has solid claims again. BERSERKER (6) hasn't won for over 2 years but the recent form is good enough and looks to get a great run from the gate. SIMPLY DEEP (1) just keeps racing well but the wide draw isn't ideal with a bit of speed drawn to his inside. MAGIC MOGUL (2) led and battled on well here 1st up with 59kg. He was only run down late by Zoete's Rock and strips fitter. GET 'EM WARRIOR (3) was solid resuming and has the option from the good gate to lead today with a lot of the speed drawn wider. Is in the mix for sure. Wider chances to SAY IT WITH WORDS (8) and GIE IT LALDY (12).

Staking Strategy: Berserker hit the line strongly last start off a 4-week break in same grade. Gets a similar set up here from the good draw. 2 units each-way BERSERKER (6)

R7 Stall Gate Kiosk Benchmark 68 Handicap, 1150m

Thoros Of Myr (3) won this track and distance 14 days ago leading all the way, sustaining a strong gallop throughout and ran the quickest time for the day. Looks the leader again, the one to beat. WARICA (6) is very genuine and did it the hard way from a wide gate when placed behind Thoros Of Myr. Draws for a much better trip. FURNEAUX (2) gets winkers on for the 1st time and tackles the synthetic for the 1st time also. There's very good form around his latest effort. CORNELIAN BAY (8) chased down Thoros Of Myr 3 starts back from barrier one and gets the same gate this time. STARS IN THE NIGHT (10) is always around the mark in these races but place claims preferred.

Staking Strategy: Thoros Of Myr is in winning form, maps to lead again, good chance to go back-to-back. 1 unit to win THOROS OF MYR (3)

R8 Seba Sheetmetal Benchmark 64 Handicap, 1880m

Chicane (1) is racing extremely well and consistently. Has enjoyed good trails at his past couple and gets a similar set up here but does rise in weight. HAPPY CLAN (2) hasn't raced on the synthetic before. Was exposed a bit too soon last start at Hobart but toughed it out well. Should settle in the first few and looks hard to beat. SUGOI LEGEND (4) was just a bit too good for GODDESS OF ROCK (9) when they clashed in same grade 21 days ago. Goddess Of Rock has a liking for this track. COUP DE SPRY (11) was well beaten into third at his latest. Perhaps didn't handle the quick back-up? Very good the start prior at Hobart. Chance if can repeat that effort. MIGHTYMAXI (10) didn't fire last start and is better suited back here on his home track. MANHATTAN NIGHTS (3) took some time to break through but has gone on to win his past two. This is tougher but won in good fashion last start coming from the rear in a slowly run race.

Staking Strategy: Chicane is the one to beat but is short enough. Happy Clan has each-way claims as long as he handles this surface for the first time. 1 unit each-way HAPPY CLAN (2)
