Silver Chief heats lead Phoenix supports

There’s a suite of good quality races to compliment Saturday night’s Phoenix at The Meadows headlined by heats of the time honoured Silver Chief.

Last year’s Silver Chief silverware.
Last year’s Silver Chief silverware.

It's a series restricted to young male greyhounds and the best of them are definitely on show.

One of the series' big guns is Dewana Star and he is very favourably drawn in the second heat. He has an imposing record of eight wins from 10 starts heading into the series.

Off The Chart is another who has some seriously big wraps on him, including those from his trainer Peter Presutto. He'll start favourite in heat 4 which looks one of the deepest.

In the final heat Melbourne Cup finalist Intrepidus gets his chance to bounce back with an inside draw and expected room to showcase his electric turn-of-foot.

There's some serious talent in every one of these heats.

Another point of interest on the night will be the match race where Phoenix reserves Colac Kid and Daysea's Rory do battle. If betting markets are anything to go by, it's going to be a belting contest.

The Whiskey Riot Classic runs after The Phoenix, which is a race restricted to greyhounds of fawn or brindle colour. Valenzuela leads the names after running 3rd in the Melbourne Cup.

Earlier in the night we say farewell to past Phoenix winner Schillaci who will have his final race start. Not only popular for his racing deeds but also his back story surrounding pizza shop owner and trainer, Jihad Talgi. Click here for more.

All of the action will again be live on Racing.com.
