Morphettville Parks (20/9) & Mt Gambier (21/9)
Jacob Opperman’s move as the number one rider for the Phillip Stokes stable in South Australia continues to gather momentum following a double at Morphettville on the weekend.
The former leading apprentice produced a race-to-race double on the Parks, combining with the Stokes-trained Zunna before he followed up with a perfectly timed ride to get Whatsanamegeorge home for the Richard and Chantelle Jolly."He's riding with confidence and starting to get a really good handle on our horses,'' Kerrin Stokes said after Zunna bounced back from her first-up run in SA when she missed the start and was beaten 4.1 lengths behind Cash.
It was a day for doubles, Opperman shared riding honours with Taylor Johnstone and Connor Murtagh.
Johnstone had an early double, getting Naval Academy home at her first ride for Ciaron Maher, before Burning Bright continued her good form for the Andrew Gluyas stable to record her second city win in succession.
"I couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity,'' Johnstone said of the opportunity to ride for a stable like Maher.
Murtagh lifted The Cosmic One to a narrow win early in the day before Free Beer proved a popular winner of the final race on the card for Justin Pickering.
Kayla Crowther took riding honours at Mount Gambier on Sunday with a treble, Kate Walters grabbing a double of her own, while Mr Lincoln claimed a heat of the Jericho Cup with his 3150m win.
