Lockinge Preview

Nine horses will go to post for the Lockinge Stakes as the older 1600m horses take each other on for the first time this season, with all eyes on Richard Hannon's Rosallion as he makes his eagerly-awaited return to action in a top-class field that features eight previous Group 1 winners.

The Richard Hannon-trained four-year-old, who will make his first appearance since running out a ready winner of the Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last June, arrives chasing a top-level hat-trick having landed the Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas prior.

Sporting the successful colours of Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, Rosallion will be looking to give his trainer a record-equalling three wins in the race. The record is currently held by his father Richard Hannon Snr, who landed the prize with Swing Low (1993), Paco Boy (2010) and Canford Cliffs (2011).

His English 2000 Guineas conqueror, Notable Speech, will be in opposition as he makes his first start since finishing third in the Breeders' Cup Turf Mile at Del Mar in November, while news broke earlier in the week that Ryan Moore would partner the Roger Teal-trained Dancing Gemini.

Moore has been confirmed to ride Roger Teal's charge, who will head to Newbury bidding to remain unbeaten this season after wins in the Doncaster Mile Stakes and bet365 Mile at Sandown last time.

Kieran Shoemark, who has endured a turbulent few weeks having lost the job as number at John and Thady Gosden's before being demoted to second by the stewards on Shes Perfect in the French 1000 Guineas last weekend, was onboard Dancing Gemini for his Doncaster Mile success.

With James Doyle on the sidelines after suffering a broken collarbone, Shoemark has picked up a ride on the Wathnan Racing-owned Fallen Angel.

Last season's Irish 1000 Guineas heroine will be dropping back to a mile having finished fourth in the Prix de l'Opera Longines at Longchamp in October.

David Menuisier has opted to stick to home soil with his Sun Chariot Stakes winner Tamfana, who was last seen chasing home the reopposing Dancing Gemini at Sandown. Rossa Ryan will take the ride, with Oisin Murphy engaged to replace Shoemark on the John and Thady Gosden-trained Lead Artist as the Clarehaven operation begin their policy of putting up the 'best possible rider available'.

Dylan Cunha's stable star Prague also takes his chance.

William Knight's Checkandchallenge completes the field of nine.
