Lass Ready to close the book at Magics
Group 2 winner a rare opportunity at Magic Millions sale.
There are higher-profile mares than Amazonian Lass being offered during Tuesday's race fillies and mares section of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, but the four-year-old is a unique lot in the sale.
The Group 2 Wakeful Stakes winner holds the distinction as the latest, and possibly final, Australian Group winner for legendary shuttle stallion More Than Ready.
More Than Ready, a son of Southern Halo, is one of the world's great stallions, siring more than 2100 individual winners either side of the equator.
His progeny include eight-time Group 1 winner More Joyous, Golden Slipper champions Sebring and Phelan Ready, Derby winners Benicio, Prized Icon, Eagle Way and Dreamaway, former star sprinting mare Samaready and 18 other Group 1 winners.
Amazonian Lass is part of his final crop conceived at Vinery Stud, where he stood each year from 2001 until 2019, which was three years before his death in America at the age of 25.
The Wakeful Stakes was one of three wins for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Amazonian Lass and one of two Black Type victories, along with last year's Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m).
More Than Ready's record as a broodmare sire will ensure Amazonian Lass has appeal on Tuesday.
Last year's Melbourne Cup winner Knight's Choice is out of More Than Ready's daughter Midnight Pearl.
In 2023, Samaready's son Shinzo won the Golden Slipper, while others out of More Than Ready mares include Coolangatta, Miracles Of Life, King Colorado and Celebrity Queen.
Amazonian Lass is one of only three daughters of More Than Ready in the race fillies and mares section of the National Sale, joined by Hot Bananas and Single 'N' Ready, while he also has 14 in Wednesday's broodmare section.
Among them is Duchess who is in-foal to Extreme Choice, which is the identical cross to Knight's Choice, who is a son of the Newgate stallion.
