We're off and racing at Sandown Hillside on Wednesday with eight races to pick from.

A fine day weather-wise is forecast with the track rated a Good 4 and the rail out 8m.

Our best bet comes up nice and early with a talented mare stepping out over 1000m for Grahame Begg, while there's also a couple of short-priced favourites going around later in the day.

For our best bets and tips, check out our race-by-race Sandown Wednesday Preview below

Race 1 – Sportsbet BlackBook Plate (1300 METRES)

1 Unit Leaving Las Vegas (4)

Craig Williams gets a crack aboard LEAVING LAS VEGAS (4), who made up decent ground down the outside to grab on return at Geelong a fortnight ago.

The Pierro three-year-old is five starts into his career and still searching for his first win, but there was a bit to like about his fresh effort given he was back early and always wide into the straight.

He gets in with a bit of relief at the weights here and looks ready for the longer trip back on top of the ground.

Race 2 – MRC Membership Feel The Thrill Handicap (1000 METRES)

1 Unit Each-Way Tiz Worthy (3)

TIZ WORTHY (3) looks capable here on return for Lloyd Kennewell and Lucy Yeomans.

The filly by Group 3 winning sire Hanseatic ran some impressive races during her maiden prep late last year, notably winning her maiden over this trip at Morphettville, before going on to run fourth at Stakes level in the Cinderella.

She's been safely held in a couple of recent jump outs ahead of her return but looks well-suited here having drawn a low gate with Jamie Melham piloting.

 Bet Now: Sandown Race 2

Race 3 – Evergreen Turf Handicap (1000 METRES)

2 Units Takeko (2)

TAKEKO (2) is the obvious choice here back from a break for Grahame Begg.

The lightly-raced four-year-old is unbeaten in two runs first-up, winning by nearly half a length at Kyneton to kick off her spring prep last year.

We last saw her wining in February at The Valley where she was out in front early and dominated on the speed, winning by a similar margin.

In well with the claim and likely to push forward from out wide, this looks like her race to lose.

Race 4 – LockettLED.au Handicap (1300 METRES)

1 Unit Tango Jewel (4)

Open race with TANGO JEWEL (4) looking close to another win.

The Winning Rupert mare has been up for a while, but she's held her form nicely to win twice and find the placings on as many occasions over her last five starts.

She was fresh from a four-week let-up on the Lakeside track to start the month, only being run down over her final few strides on a wet surface.

Back on a dry deck now and likely to test her luck on the speed, she's one of the better chances.

 Bet Now: Sandown Race 4

Race 5 – Sportsbet Feed Handicap (2400 METRES)

1 Unit Rosso (5)

ROSSO (5) looks a deserving favourite, albeit in another wide-open contest.

He was beaten gamely at Geelong two weeks ago on a heavy deck, giving the leader a solid challenge over the final 100m before his condition gave way.

Hard fit now third-up with the 2kg claim strengthening his chances, this looks like a lovely race for him to go on with the job.

Race 6 – Tile Importer Handicap (1400 METRES)

1 Unit Home Zone (8)

HOME ZONE (8) has a few things working in her favour here for Lindsay Park.

She was a strong winner of her maiden second-up at Echuca two back, only finding the front off a wide run close to the 100m mark, where she let down well to win by more than a length.

By Written Tycoon, she stormed the line again up in class here on the Lakeside track two weeks ago, just missing out on a place where she was super strong through the line.

Hard fit now and likely to relish racing from the inside gate, she has major claims at a good price.

 Bet Now: Sandown Race 6

Race 7 – ive > Handicap (1400 METRES)

1 Unit New Sovereign (6)

As the saying goes, forgive a good horse for one bad run, which applies to NEW SOVEREIGN (6) here back from a break

This promising five-year-old strung together two solid wins last prep over similar distances at Geelong and Seymour, before tackling a BM74 at Headquarters where he was away slowly and never really in the finish.

The soft gate works in his favour here and with an unbeaten record first-up, he's the straight bat play.

 Bet Now: Sandown Race 7

Race 8 – Sportsbet Get On Extra Handicap (1600 METRES)

1 Unit Sir Atlas (15)

SIR ATLAS (15) goes around third-up for Lindsay Smith with the step back to the mile looking ideal.

The Irish galloper is arguably the best horse in this race, and although his third-up form isn't overly flash, he does look suited back over 1600m after making up a stack of ground out wide over shorter here first-up.

Proven in all conditions and down at the weights under Jamie Mott, he looks incredibly well-placed.
