Ladbrokes Blog: Caulfield Preview – 28th June 2025

Nine races will be run and won at Caulfield on Saturday, and we’ve got the full Caulfield preview and best bets across the Melbourne race card. Whilst there’s no black type racing on the program, there’s full fields, quality gallopers and plenty of value to be found.

I've done the form for each event, and you can find my thoughts and selections below.

RACE 1 - 11:50AM: VALE SNITZEL 2Y0 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

Sonofkirk did plenty wrong on debut down the Flemington straight but still closed off well to finish only .6 of a length away in third.

The son of Ole Kirk, as his named suggests, came out of the gates awkwardly and then just raced ungenerously for much of the event, even attempting to buck in the early part.

Still a colt, he will have taken plenty of benefit from the experience and I like that he's getting onto a track with a bend, giving him a rail to follow.

The low draw should see him afforded every chance and Jye McNeil will take over the steering for Anthony and Sam Freedman.

2 units – SONOFKIRK

RACE 2 - 12:25AM: RACE PREVIEWS HANDICAP 3YO (1000 METRES)

Trembles is unbeaten in two runs this campaign and I think the Godolphin filly can make it three straight.

The well-named daughter of Blue Diamond winner Earthquake, was able to cross from the wide gate over 1000m on the Lakeside and when challenged in the straight, showed plenty of fight to hold them off and score by just under a length.

She was ultra impressive at her prior start, as she led around Mornington and kicked clear score by four lengths.

With the three race starts, she's doing everything right and looks set for bigger and better things.

She does rise 3.5kgs but gets a senior rider back aboard.

RACE 3 - 1:00PM: ive HANDICAP 3YO FILLIES (1200 METRES)

Mercurial Lady could not have been more impressive when resuming on the Ballarat synthetic and she looks set for a big campaign.

Making full use of the inside draw, she took up the running and despite being pressured a long way from home, she extended strongly in the straight to post a seven-length margin on the line.

Prepared by the Moody / Coleman team, the daughter of So You Think had just had the two starts in her first campaign, placing on both occasions, and given time, she looks to have come back bigger and better.

This is obviously tougher but she looks very progressive.

RACE 4 - 1:35PM: REMEMBERING ROBBIE LAING 3YO HANDICAP (1440 METRES)

Acta Non Verba was only denied by the barest of margins when kicking off his campaign over 1200m at Swan Hill and he have taken plenty of improvement from the outing.

Returning to the races a gelding, the son of Blue Point settled in the box seat but was tucked away for much of the straight, charging through once clear but he couldn't reel in the winner in time.

He showed good natural talent during the Spring, winning a Cranbourne in dominant fashion before finishing a narrow runner up to star filly Treasurethe Moment.

He looks to have come back in top order and whilst he does rise in grade, he drops 5.5kgs on that first up run and will be suited by the rise in trip.

RACE 5 - 2:15PM: BLACKBOOK HANDICAP BM78 (2000 METRES)

Captain Electric comes off a commanding five and a half-length victory at Mornington and looks well placed to make it back-to-back wins.

Settling at the tail in the slowly run race, he got moving into it at the 1000m mark and took off around them approaching the turn and shot away to score easily.

It was a very impressive performance given that he was first up off a long break over 2000m and with the added fitness, he looks the one to beat.

He has won at his only start here and relishes wet tracks.

With Ben Allen away, Daniel Stackhouse takes over the steering for Andrea Leek.

RACE 6 - 2:55PM: QUAYCLEAN HANDICAP BM84 (1100 METRES)

The Black Cloud makes the journey from Sydney, and she was successful last time she made a hit and run trip to Melbourne.

The Joe Pride trained mare kicked off her campaign with a very encouraging effort to finish second over 1100m at Canterbury and she looks nicely placed here dropping back to fillies and mares company.

With four wins and four second placings from just twelve career starts, she's working through her grades well and she showed her class when saluting down the Flemington straight in an open three year Handicap twelve months ago.

She excels on wet ground and gets in nicely here with Tom Prebble's 2kg claim.

RACE 7 - 3:30PM: MORE PLACES HANDICAP BM84 (1200 METRES)

Keep Your Cool proved too good when resuming over 1200m at Mornington and I think she can repeat that performance.

Settling behind the leader, she was presented into the clear at the right time and gave a good kick to pull away and score by just over a length.

A very honest mare, she's now recorded five wins from just thirteen raceday appearances and the form around her is solid.

She unbeaten in two runs at 1200m and does race particularly well second up.

Whist she does rise in grade, she drops 3kg on that first up win and she's proven in all conditions.

1 unit – KEEP YOUR COOL

RACE 8 - 4:05PM: MRC MEMBERSHIP FEEL THE THRILL HANDICAP (2000 METRES)

Sayedaty Sadaty has been placed in both of his runs this time in and is sure to appreciate stepping out to 2000m.

He was strong through the line to finish only half a length in second when resuming over 1800m on the Hillside and over that same course and distance last time, he settled outside the leader but just looked a bit one paced over the final part.

The European import failed to fire in two previous starts on Australian soil and given time, he looks to have settled in nicely.

He presents at peak fitness, the low daw should see him afforded all the favours and Logan Bates will again take 3kgs off.

1 unit – SAYEDATY SADATY

RACE 9 - 4:40PM: MRC CHAIRMAN'S CLUB HANDICAP (1440 METRES)

Yellow Sam returned to the races in fine style with a determined win in the Gold Topaz at Swan Hill and I think she'll be hard to beat again.

I've always had a lot of time for the Lindsay Smith trained mare, she's very honest and she recorded a deserved back type victory last campaign when taking out the Group 3 Mystic Journey Stakes.

She's won three of her four second up appearances and wiLL relish the rise to 1440m.

She races very well here and draws to get the right run under Fred Kersley.

1 unit – YELLOW SAM
