Kevin Philippart de Foy to take over from Raphael Freire as Amo Racing’s Freemason Lodge retained trainer
Amo Racing have appointed Kevin Philippart de Foy as Raphael Freire’s replacement for the retained trainer role at the historic Freemason Lodge stables.
Amo Racing's Kia Joorabchian bought the yard in January following the retirement of its previous occupier Sir Michael Stoute.Since then, Raphael Freire, who had previously been based in Lambourn, has been training out of the historic Newmarket stables.
However, in a statement, Amo revealed on Tuesday that the Belgian-born handler Kevin Philippart De Foy would take over the operation following a 'thorough and detailed selection process involving some great candidates.'
Joorabchian said: "First, I'd like to welcome Kevin Philippart de Foy as our new trainer at Freemason Lodge. Kevin is a fantastic horseman who understands our goals and shares our ambition. Having known and worked with him for several years, it makes this transition even smoother. We know his character fits and our ideas align perfectly."
"We believe he's the right person to take the operation to the next level, and we're excited about what's ahead with him leading the team at this historic yard.
"At the same time, I want to say a big thank you to Raphael for stepping up and doing such a brilliant job getting Freemason up and running. His work over the past few months has been crucial, and he's laid a solid foundation for the future."
"Raphael has been a big part of Amo Racing's journey so far, and he continues to be an integral part of our team moving forward."
Kevin Philippart de Foy joined the training ranks in 2020 following successful spells learning the ropes with Criquette Head in Chantilly and the Pegasus Stables-based James Fanshawe.
Following the appointment of his new role, Kevin Philippart de Foy, who has saddled 14 winners from 114 runners this season, said: "I am deeply honoured to have been entrusted with the responsibility of taking over at Freemason Lodge and training such an exciting string of horses for Amo Racing," said Philippart. "This is a major milestone in my career, and I'm incredibly grateful to Kia and the team for the opportunity.
"Amo Racing's investment and ambition in the sport are truly inspiring, and I look forward to playing my part in what I hope will be a very successful journey together."
While Raphael Freire will return to his previous role as a private trainer for Amo Racing, existing staff at Freemason Lodge remain in place. The news comes in tandem with the completion of an extensive refurbishment at the prestigious Bury Road-based stables.
