Bright starts for debutants across borders
Chris Waller and Busuttin-Young have unveilved to good prospects on Easter Monday.
A pair of two-year-olds have impressed on debut in Sydney and Melbourne on Monday with black-type futures predicted.
At Sandown, co-trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young have immediate plans to raise the game for juvenile gelding Blind Raise ($3.20) after his win in the Happy 50th to Nick and Jamie Gold Handicap (1400m) by 2¼-lengths.
April 25 has been circled on the calendar for the gelding to take on the Listed Anzac Day Stakes (1400m) at Flemington as a stepping stone to more.
"It was good to see as when they trial up like that at home and then you always want to see them do it on race day," Busuttin said.
"He's very calm and I was surprised how calm he was saddling up."
By Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) and Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) winner Ace High, Busuttin noted the gelding's demeanour was unusual for the breed who can often show flighty traits.
"He has just been bombproof the whole way through," Busuttin added.
While Blitzgal ($2.50) is still seen as a work-in-progress, the daughter of Churchill showed enough at this stage of her career to take out the Drinkwise Plate (1400m) for two and three-year-old maidens at Rosehill by 3¾-lengths.
"It was a very good display on debut," trainer Chris Waller said.
"She still did a few things wrong and was wayward in the straight.
"She was a little bit keen and wobbled when Zac (Lloyd, jockey) asked to come off heels and accelerate."
Zac Lloyd added that the way she jumped and put herself in the race for the first half was a was a positive asset for the future.
A $70,000 purchase at the 2024 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Blitzgal is the first winner for her dam Tropezina of her three horses to start so far.
