Albert Einstein and Gstaad will need to be supplemented for 2000 Guineas after being removed due to “computer error”
Supplementary 2000 Guineas entry required for O’Brien duo after ‘computer error’
In a week where the 2000 Guineas market had already swung in multiple directions, there was further confusion added when two of Aidan O'Brien's contenders were removed from the list on the BHA Racing Admin site.
Aidan O'Brien confirmed the removal of both horses to be in error but despite attempting to get them reinstated via the British Horseracing Authority, neither Gstaad nor Albert Einstein are now currently entered for Newmarket's opening Classic.
A BHA spokesperson said: "Following the scratchings earlier today of Gstaad and Albert Einstein from the Betfred 2,000 Guineas, trainer Aidan O'Brien contacted the BHA to explain that this had happened in error.
"Such scratchings are immediately communicated to the media and betting markets. This is a policy that is applied consistently across all races in Britain and to all connections and, while we understand that this will be a frustrating outcome for all concerned, it is for this reason that the horses in question cannot be reinstated after the event.
"Should connections wish for either horse to compete in the Betfred 2,000 Guineas, a supplementary entry can be made following the process outlined in the race conditions."
Last year's two-time winning juvenile Albert Einstein shot to the head of the 2000 Guineas market after glowing reports from a press morning at Ballydoyle, but he subsequently failed to land a blow in the Listed Gladness Stakes on Saturday, with O'Brien since suggesting a return to sprinting would be on the cards.
As a result of Albert Einstein's poor reappearance performance and a positive piece of work at the Curragh on Sunday, Gstaad emerged as O'Brien's number one candidate as he searches for a staggering eleventh 2000 Guineas and a first since 2019. The son of Starspangledbanner filled the runner-up spot three times at Group 1 level following his Coventry Stakes success before getting back to winning ways with a dominant win in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf.
Gstaad and Albert Einstein can be supplemented for the 2000 Guineas at a cost of £30,000 on Monday 27th April, with Paddy Power reinstating both colts back into their markets at 6/1 and 20/1 respectively.
