‘He should relish the return to the Berkshire venue’ - Sam King’s daily wagers
Sam King is back with three selections on the final day of Royal Ascot.
Charlie Appleby will be hoping to break his current barren spell at Royal Ascot with Treanmor in the opening Chesham Stakes, but he looks short enough at around 5/4 and Moments Of Joy now represents some value at around 3/1.
Aidan O'Brien has already enjoyed an excellent week at Royal Ascot in the juvenile division and Moments Of Joy could well enhance it here.
A well-bred daughter of Justify, she still looked very much like a work in progress when making a winning debut at Leopardstown in a race that has thrown up Chesham Stakes scorers in 2017 and 2024 for the same stable.
There should be plenty more to come from her following that initial effort and with proven form over the distance (debut success came over an extended 7f), she's preferred to Charlie Appleby's contender, who cost 2,000,000euros as a yearling.
1pt Win - Moments Of Joy
Odds - 3/1
In the feature Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, the well-backed Satono Reve is an interesting contender for Japan, especially after he impressed in a piece of work on the July Course at Newmarket earlier in the month.
However, he too looks short enough in the market now, so I'm happy to side with Inisherin, who looked as though he would improve a bundle when winning the Duke Of York Clipper Stakes on his reappearance last month.
Kevin Ryan made it no secret that he'd missed some key work going into that race, so it was a testament to his natural ability that he was able to get the better of the reopposing Flora Of Bermuda.
An impressive winner of the Commonwealth Cup over this course and distance at the Royal meeting last season, he should relish the return to the Berkshire venue, while jockey William Buick couldn't arrive in much better form following an excellent week.
1pt Win - Inisherin
Odds - 9/2
Our final wager comes in a typically-competitive Wokingham Stakes (5.00). William Haggas' More Thunder looks progressive and holds obvious claims as he bids to complete the hat-trick, but he's drawn high in stall 23 and yesterday's contests on the straight course appeared favoured by those on the other side.
With that in mind, it could be worth taking a chance on the Harry Charlton-trained Ten Pounds, who pulled to hard when well beaten over seven furlongs in the Victoria Cup at Ascot last time.
A determined all-the-way winner over seven at Newmarket prior, this prominent runner could be well-suited by dropping back to six furlongs for the first time, especially if settling better and taking to the first-time tongue-tie.
He remains unexposed on just his sixth start on the turf and although defying a current rating of 102 isn't going to be an easy task, he could feasibly find the frame at around odds of 25/1.
0.5pt Each-way - Ten Pounds
Odds - 22/1
