‘An opening mark of 80 looks extremely workable’ - Sam King’s daily wagers

Sam King is back with two selections on Thursday

Aidan O'Brien landed both Classic trials at Chester yesterday and could be set to dominate the feature action once more on the Roodee.

With that in mind, heads turn to later on the card and the competitive three-year-old handicap over seven furlongs at 3.40.

George Boughey's El Burhan has been solid in the early markets and could prove to have something in hand off his current mark, although the same can be said for God Of War, who is just preferred for the Tom Clover team.

The son of Mohaather looked like a nice prospect when winning at Doncaster on his second start as a juvenile last season and its hardly surprising connections opted to have a crack at two stakes contests after that.

He came up short on both occasions, finishing a respectable fifth in the Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster before struggling in a heavy-ground renewal of the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury. However, he always looked like being the type of horse who would do better at three and it will be interesting to see how he's developed over the winter.

Given how it paid to be on the front end yesterday, I'm hopeful that Neil Callan will opt to ride his mount more positively than he has been in his career thus far, especially with a fair draw in stall five to work with.

1pt Win – God Of War

Odds – 4/1

Lady Vivian looks to hold excellent claims in the finale after her last-time-out Southwell success received a major boost yesterday, with the runner-up Caspi Star, going on to finish a slightly unlucky third in the Listed Cheshire Oaks.

Ralph Beckett's filly saw out this trip well to see off Caspi Star in comfortable fashion at Southwell on her second start this season and should have plenty more to offer.

Given that Caspi Star is now certain to take a hike in the ratings for her performance yesterday, Lady Vivian's opening mark of 80 looks extremely workable.

Hector Crouch should be able to ride his mount as he likes from gate three and although there are dangers, none might have enough in hand to trouble this unexposed daughter of Camelot.

2pt Win – Lady Vivian

Odds - Evs
