$1.4m Lazzago ‘great shopping’ at MM
Capitalist mare in-foal to Zoustar a Day 2 star at National Sale
Lazzago commanded a greater price than any other mare at the time of her sale on Day 2 of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, but the four-year-old was still described as 'great buying'.
The former Chris Waller-trained mare got to $1.4 million before being knocked down to RMA Bloodstock and Paul Frampton just before lunchtime on Wednesday.
The daughter of Capitalist was sold in-foal to Zoustar, who will this year stand for $275,000, which Widden Stud's Mat Comerford said made her an attractive package given how well similarly-performed mares who have yet to go to stud sold on Day 1 of the sale.
"There was a lot of interest in her and I think she was great buying, in fairness," Comerford said.
"I know it's a lot of money, but mares like her were making that yesterday but she's already in-foal and on the way."
Lazzago, winner of the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at two, is out of the Pins mare Lake Como, who is from a speedy former Shadwell Stud family that includes Taameer, whose daughter Bulbula is the dam of Group 2 winner Doull.
"She was actually bred by Robert Anderson on the farm and we offered her as a yearling," Comerford said.
"She's a straight-forward mare and she's let down into a beautiful mare."
Lazzago was one of a number of seven-figure lots who went through in the first two hours of selling on Wednesday.
Two lots after Lazzago, Lilliesformillie sold in-foal to Too Darn Hot to Astute Bloodstock and Cressfield for $1.3m, the same amount Yulong paid for Pins mare Finepoint, who is in-foal to Extreme Choice.
Yulong also paid $1.25m for Samantha Miss's daughter Miss Enfield, who is carrying a foal by Wootton Bassett.
