Swans Hockey Club scores support at Collie Harness Racing Club Cup Day

Collie Harness Racing Club’s 2025 Cup Day has delivered a major win for local sport, helping the Swans Hockey Club raise vital funds to support junior players and strengthen the sport’s future in the South West.

On November 16, volunteers from the Swans Hockey Club were out in force at the harness racing meeting, taking on roles in the canteen, hospitality areas and around the grounds to support one of Collie's most popular events.

Their efforts helped raise funds to purchase new equipment and subsidise costs for young players taking part in the winter competition.

The club also hopes to donate equipment to the Collie Hockey Association, helping grow the game and support the broader local hockey community.

Racing WA matched the funds raised with a $4571 contribution through the Racing WA Community Fund's Race Club Community Program – an initiative that helps race clubs give back to their local communities.

Collie Harness Racing Club President Brian Wheeler said aid the partnership delivered benefits for both the club and the wider community.

"The Race Club Community Program really helps bring people together through supporting important local initiatives and helping us deliver a welcoming, family-friendly race day," he said

"It's a terrific program that recognises the hard work of our volunteers and strengthens the connection between local clubs and the wider community."

Bendigo Bank Collie Cup Day has grown into a much-loved family day out, bringing people of all ages back together to catch up with friends, enjoy the harness racing action.

Racing and Wagering Western Australia CEO Ian Edwards said the Race Club Community Program continued to demonstrate the strength of regional communities.

"Regional race clubs play an important social and economic role and programs like this highlight the generosity and community spirit that define these towns," Ian said.

"Racing WA is proud to support the Collie Harness Racing Club in backing such a worthwhile local initiative."

Since the program's inception in 2015, race clubs and Racing WA have jointly raised more than $1 million for community groups and charitable organisations.
