Minnie Hauk hands Aidan O’Brien a ninth Cheshire Oaks

Aidan O’Brien’s excellent record in the Weatherbys ePassport Cheshire Oaks continued when Minnie Hauk handed him a ninth success in the contest under Ryan Moore.

A €1.85million purchase from the 2023 Goffs Orby Book 1 sale, Minnie Hauk was sent off the 13/8 market leader to make it two wins from three starts following her commanding Leopardstown maiden success in October.

Despite showing a tendency to race lazily throughout behind the front-running Queen Of Thieves, the excellent-looking daughter of Frankel had plenty in reserve in the closing stages, staying on stoutly to strike the front under Ryan Moore passing the three-furlong marker before seeing off Secret Of Love by a length.

Caspi Star emerged with plenty of credit back in third having been forced wide rounding the final bend.

"You'd have to be very impressed with everything she's done there," said Ryan Moore on ITV racing. "It was her first run of the year, and she only had the two runs late on last year, she was drawn wide but showed good speed to get a position and relaxed.

"I got to Kieran a little bit early, but she stayed on well in the straight and is an uncomplicated filly with plenty of ability."

John Gosden's champion filly Enable was the last horse to complete the Chester-Epsom Oaks double in 2017, something that Minnie Hauk now looks set to attempt at Epsom in June.

Coolmore representative Paul Smith, son of Derrick Smith, added: "I think we'll be heading to Epsom after that, Aidan always thought she'd improve a lot for this run.

"She's a kind, uncomplicated filly with a great attitude and the step up in trip obviously helped, so we'll be looking at the Oaks I would think.

"Ryan was niggling a little on the way round, but he said that was just to get her interested. She always responds to the jockey and that was what she did, she just kept finding.

"Aidan always says how much they learn by coming here, he picks the ones he thinks will come on the most. It's a unique track, they are so close to the crowd, and they come on a ton, so he always likes to have them pointed towards here."

Paddy Power cut the winner to 9/1 from 20s for the Epsom Classic.
