This famous G1 will be run at San Isidro on Saturday 13th December.
There will be a field of 17 for the 2400m race and one additional feature this year will be the presence of Frankie Dettori. Dettori is making a brief "starter to retirement" tour of South America starting at Buenos Aires where he has several mounts on the day and in the Pellegrini he will be on board El Pulque who is considered to be an outsider. The jockey will be 55 on Monday and says he has been keeping fit as he doesn't want to embarrass himself!
The race itself looks to be a clash between the Argentinian Acento Final who recently won the Jockey Club and has 3 other prestige race wins in the CV, and Brazil's Obataye who won the Gran Premio Latinoamericano in Brazil last month. Jockey Joao Moreira is expected to make a quick return from Hong Kong to partner the horse again. There's a promising 3yo in the mix Havana Cigar who won the Derby Paulista in his native Brazil and a couple of other G1 winners in Gladiator Hat and Equal Talent.
It's a very popular event and a huge crowd is expected to be in attendance. Prize money has gone up this year to US$ 370 millions and the winner gets an entry into the 2026 Breeders' Cup Turf.
