ESSENDON v GWS
Thursday 17 July @ Marvel Stadium
Two sides that went around last Saturday are being asked to have another go at it just five days later.
And the contrast in style, scoring and the cattle left is a stark one.
Essendon must have walked under a ladder, run into a black cat, broken a mirror or whatever it has taken. From their perspective they will hope all their bad luck has been used up by 2025.
At this rate, Matthew Lloyd, Dustin Fletcher and Terry Daniher will be running out on the weekend.
It really was a shocking game to only have 10 goals scored in the entire match against Richmond. That had full scale Covid-era feels about it.
| Match | Essendon | GWS | Ground |
| Last time they met | 12.10 [82] | 9.8 [62] | Marvel |
| Last 10 matches | 4 wins | 6 wins | |
| Notes | Two games ago GWS kicked 25 goals. | ||
| At the Docklands, it is 4/1 to Essendon. | |||
After establishing an early lead, the swing was only working in one direction until just before half time. But most of the second half was also one way traffic.
At some stage in a big Final either Cadman or Hogan are going to get you. When they almost have four of them (Stringer/Riccardi) plus Toby Greene for good measure then they are dangerous.
Unless a bad case of the gout goes through the Giants or they phone in a performance, this should be pretty comfortable.
The AFL and broadcasters will be hoping it isn't like the game in 2023 being 25 goals to 5.
