SYDNEY v CARLTON

Friday 16 May @ SCG

This is definitely last chance saloon for the home side with implications going forward for the rest of the season so obvious.

Sydney won a lot of close games in 2024. It helped them build that buffer early in the year so by the time they hit hurdles in July/August, they were safe.

That isn't happening this time around and last week in Melbourne showed. Essendon established a 5 goal lead with one to go and yet only scored a point to end the game.

Yet 3.5 was the way the Swans came home. They really should have won. That continuity break down with the lack of forwards and injuries to key players strikes hard.

Match Sydney Carlton Ground
Last time they met    17.15 [117] 9.11 [65] SCG
Last 10 matches 6 wins 4 wins
Notes Last 6 games have been W/L/W/L/W/L in these contests.
Last 10 SCG games it is 9/1 to Sydney.
Carlton hasn't set the world on fire themselves. But apart from that horror show in Adelaide at least has some momentum.

If they can get Curnow and McKay to handle the lack of a CHF structure at the SCG, they should find enjoyment.

Sydney may well be having the perfect losing season. Lose with some obvious frailties but be competitive, have the unmistaken excuse of injuries, get a high draft selection and reset after the shock of 2024.

And this is the sort of game Carlton just lose for fun. Much as they did to Adelaide recently.

But surely there is too much firepower in their forwards for the depleted Swans. So the Blues one last time even at the SCG.

Match Selection: Carlton by 16 points

Suggested Bets: Carlton @ $2.10
