Winning Trainer: Marc & Mitchell Conners (Marc comments)
First stakes win for him and Mitch as partners: "For a small stable like ours, it's a lot of work. We have to put in a lot of hours. The team we've got behind us at home are fantastic, the girl who straps him as been with us for five years. These are the wins that are pretty special for us."
How many in the team?: "Seven. We all have to do extra to get the job done and that goes from the top right down."
On Mitchell's work (25 years old): "He has put the hard yards in. He has done a lot of work. He is driving home from Newcastle today, he got beaten up there, so this will cheer him up."
Plan to trail the speed?" "When James came out he said, 'there's a lot of speed' and I said, 'well just let them go and we will stalk them'. That's why you put him on. He gets that bit extra out of them."
"His trial the other day was fantastic. We made him trial solid because we needed him to be ready today and he was."
Mitch a fourth generation trainer: "Yes and it's a proud moment for me to have him down beside me. He will remember that for a long time."
Winning Jockey: James McDonald
On the win: "They have done a marvellous job preparing this horse and getting him up and going. But at least he executed well. Some think he is just a mad leader but this just goes to show he can take a sit under the right circumstances."
On the run: "It was Tommy (Berry on Enriched) coming up outside me. Willaidow is such a competitive horse, he can be temperamental in that sense, but if there wasn't a horse to his outside he would have settled nicely. So, he did a very good job today.''
Beaten Jockeys:
Angela Jones (Zarastro): "He ran well. Probably just peaked the last 50m."
Adam Hyeronimus (The Instructor): "That is the horse he is. Good to see him bounce back out of his poor run at the Gold Coast."
Josh Parr (Disneck): "A flat performance today. Unsure as to why."
Tommy Berry (Enriched): "Disappointing. Just re-assess him in the morning."
Andrew Adkins (Fire Star): "He has run a really good race. Just on the back up probably wasn't as sharp early and just missed that spot. Thought he did a really good job off the back of that speed and chased home nicely."
Zac Lloyd (Meridiana): "She has returned well. Wasn't able to build momentum when needed to. In for a good prep."
