Widdup filly set for another Savvy showing
Savvy Hallie can make a clean sweep of the opening Princess Series races when she steps out in the Furious Stakes.
Brad Widdup isn't overly concerned by the improving track conditions as he readies Silver Shadow Stakes winner Savvy Hallie for the second leg of the prestigious Princess Series.
After an outstanding juvenile season in which she twice placed in Group company, the filly made it two wins from as many starts this preparation when scooting through the heavy 10 conditions at Randwick last month.
Her Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) win came just nine days after she resumed with an emphatic 5-1/2 length romp in similar conditions at Newcastle, a feat Widdup said only an above-average filly could have achieved.
"It was a pretty good effort to do that and in a short period. You can't do that with a normal horse," Widdup said.
"She's learning what's it's all about now.
"I think she does like a bit of the sting out of the ground but she's had three runs on good tracks for two seconds so still acceptable and they were in nice races.
"I couldn't imagine we're going to get a good three or anything like that so it's the perfect time of year for her."
Savvy Hallie was among 16 acceptors for the Furious Stakes (1200m) which attracted an intriguing field, headed by Silver Shadow Stakes runner-up Within The Law whose task was made harder by the outside gate.
Savvy Hallie has drawn ideally in five, while Agarwood, the beaten favourite in the Silver Shadow Stakes, has barrier 10 and untapped Michael Freedman-trained filly Apocalyptic the rails.
The Furious is the second race in the four part Princess Series which also includes the Tea Rose (1400m) and Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m).
