FLEMINGTON
Group 1 - TAB Turnbull Stakes
(4yo+ SW&P - 2000m)
Race Result:
1st: Sir Delius (Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/Craig Williams) - $7
2nd: Antino (Tony Gollan/Blake Shinn) - $9.50
3rd: Via Sistina (Chris Waller/James McDonald) - $2.60F
Winning Time: 2:02.82 Last 600m: N/A
Margins: 1¾L x Long Neck
Beaten jockeys comments:
Blake Shinn (Antino): "Super proud of him. Had the back of the winner early and then Craig had a bit of luck getting to one-off. From the 1400 (metre mark) I was left exposed but the pace came out at that point of the race and Antino likes to have a bit of room. He blended into the turn super and got run down by a star. Great run."
Jye McNeil (Land Legend): "He's probably just looking for the 2400 now."
James McDonald (Via Sistina): "I think she's going well. That tough run will harden her up a bit for the Cox Plate."
Ben Melham (Moira): "Wasn't a bad run. Had to get a long way back from the draw. She came to the outside and she seemed to appreciate a bit of room and a bit of give in the ground. I thought she was steady to the line. That will tighten her fitness up and she's ready to run well over 2400."
Jamie Melham (Half Yours): "Extremely excited for two weeks' time with this horse. He's flying."
Damian Lane (Aeliana): "She ran honest. Just lacked a bit of change up speed. When I got clear she travelled through her turn-of-foot and she was charging late."
Billy Egan (Young Werther): "He rounded the race out ok. I think he is looking for 2400 (metres) now so a good run ."
Michael Dee (Adelaide River): "Super effort. He loved it out in front and towards the line just got tightened up and potentially cost us running fourth."
Jordan Childs (Golden Path): "He ran as well as he could. He ended up having a nice run and got on the back of Antino. Just struggled when they quickened up and he couldn't."
Mark Zahra (Middle Earth): <No comment provided>
Daniel Stackhouse (Deakin): "I thought he was fantastic. Had to use him from his barrier. He travelled strong and put himself in the race and held his ground nicely. He going well for the Caulfield Cup."
Harry Coffey (Zardozi): "She was fairly dour today so she might be looking for more ground. Also probably wasn't 100% on the firming surface. She was going ok without flying but at 2400 you'll see a better horse."
Beau Mertens (River Of Stars): "I thought she ran well. She's not a horse that has a lot of change-up speed. We were just pocketed in there and we couldn't build when we wanted to but I thought she maintained a nice gallop to the line."
RANDWICK
Group 1 - Darley Flight Stakes
(3yo F SW - 1600m)
Race Result:
1st: Apocalyptic (M Freedman/T Berry) - $1.65F
2nd: Within The Law (B Baker/J Collett) - $6
3rd: Karinska (C Waller/Z Lloyd) - $26
Winning Time: 1:35.88 Last 600m: 33.78
Margins: 1¼L x ½ Neck
Beaten jockey comments:
Dylan Gibbons (Artistic Venture): "Really good run. Just didn't suit the sit and sprint shape of the race. Needs some room to build up."
Ethan Brown (Tupakara): "She just didn't muster underneath me early. We were forced to go back. Race wasn't run to suit. But I still would have liked to see her pick up a bit late."
Jason Collett (Within The Law): "Far better today. Was able to use the better barrier. Good to see her back on track."
Nash Rawiller (Queen Of Clubs): "She sucked back there at the start so she has given them a start. I don't think she liked that ground at all. I felt like she jarred up quite badly. See how she pulls up."
Zac Lloyd (Karinska): "She was fantastic. Acquitted herself very well. Will be an even better 4yo. Probably needs to strengthen up a bit. Just out on her feet the last 50m."
Kerrin McEvoy (Enviable): "That was a nice run by her. Had to go back from the gate. She was a nice filly hitting the line. Will be lovely in six months time. Whatever she is doing now is a bonus."
Adam Hyeronimus (Reflect): "She is a nice filly. Maybe a softer track would help her. It will come in time for her."
Tim Clark (Magenta Skies): "Obviously the tempo wasn't strong and she probably didn't quite adapt to that as well as some others. She still found the line OK. Will make a nice filly in time."
Reece Jones (Lighthouse Lass): "Obviously a step up in grade for her. I thought she acquitted herself well. Just need to come back and learn to relax a little bit more."
Group 1 - TAB Epsom
(3yo+ Handicap - 1600m)
Race Result:
1st: Autumn Glow (C Waller/K McEvoy) - $1.75F
2nd: Fully Lit (G Waterhouse & A Bott/W Costin) - $31
3rd: Pericles (B Baker/J Parr) - $7.50
Winning Time: 1:33.14 Last 600m: 33.77
Margins: 1½L x ½ Head
Beaten jockey comments:
Chad Schofield (Ceolwulf): "We found a good spot on the back of Pericles. The pace did come out of the race mid-race. Got into the clear very nicely. Felt like he just wants a bit of give in the track. He was good though, he was genuine."
Josh Parr (Pericles): "Terrific effort by him. Just stumbled as the gate opened. Just tried to anticipate the start too much. It allowed Autumn Glow and Pier to have the wood on us early. A very good effort."
Andrew Mallyon (Yellow Brick): "He was fantastic. Just a victim of the slow speed again. He's had that three times in a row. If he gets a genuinely run race, he goes very close."
Ethan Brown (Pier): "I thought he was a little bit plain second up off the bridle. I expect him to improve off today's run."
Reece Jones (Encap): "I was still happy with his effort. Had the race set up and tempo and position against him today. Just controlled it too well in front."
Andrew Adkins (El Castello): "A little bit disappointing on face value. We had the right run. If anything he might have travelled a little keen in the middle stages."
Rachel King (Depth Of Character): "He has run OK. Didn't have a lot of luck early. I thought he finished off OK."
Alysha Collett (Swiftfalcon): "He did himself no favours when he dwelt at the start. He got a lovely track up underneath them and was strong to the line. A very good effort."
Winona Costin (Fully Lit): "It was a fantastic run. He jumped nicely and was able to control the race. He gave a really good sight."
Ben Thompson (Verona Rose): "She was great. A decent step up into an Epsom. Fourth up over a bit further and she will be ready to go."
Zac Lloyd (Lord Penman): "He is a very nice horse. They will have a lot of fun with him. He was a bit gassy with some pressure outside of him which fired him up. I think if he draws well, he can flop on his neck. A nice horse for next prep."
Group 1 - Asahi Super Dry Metropolitan
(3yo+ Handicap - 2400m)
Race Result:
1st: Royal Supremacy (C Maher/R Dolan) - $7.50
2nd: Soul Of Spain (C Waller/Z Lloyd) - $4.80F
3rd: Juja Kibo (C Maher/R Jones) - $19
Winning Time: 2:26.84 Last 600m: 34.54
Margins: ¾L x Short Neck
Besten jockey comments:
Tim Clark (Vauban): "I thought he ran really well today. Ridden a bit quieter and found the line much better."
Rachel King (Arapaho): "A bit of a below par run for him. Not quite sure."
Tommy Berry (More Felons): "Terrific run from him. I rode him on Tuesday morning and thought he was one run away. He showed that today, he peaked at about the 100m. The St Leger for him in a few weeks time is a perfect race for him."
Ethan Brown (Changingoftheguard): No comment
Dylan Gibbons (Athabascan): "Thought we had a great run. Just wanted to see a tad more from him late."
Kerrin McEvoy (Birdman): "He ran well. Wasn't beaten far. Had to go back from the gate. Levelled up and hit the line well. A better gate would have suited him."
Molly Bourke (Son Of Sun): "He didn't have a very great run throughout the poor bugger. He is a tough horse and there are better races for him ahead. A torrid run today."
Zac Lloyd (Soul Of Spain): No comment
Jay Ford (Etna Rosso): "He ran well. He got shuffled back when the move came. Lost his momentum. Got going late."
Andrew Adkins (Piggyback): "She was tough. Might have been a bit over the top today. Never wanted to relax. I thought she was gallant."
Anna Roper (Glory Daze): "He has gone really good. Race shape didn't suit when they took the speed out. We popped around them and he was happy out in front. Needs a wet track."
Louise Day (Wyclif): "Huge run. Just the slow tempo so pulled a little bit. Didn't get much clear running until very late when hit the line strongly."
Alysha Collett (Don Diego De Vega): "Brave run. He will benefit from that."
Brock Ryan (Flying Bandit): "Not a bad run. Tempo was muddly from the middle stage and over-raced a bit."
Ben Thompson (Travolta): "Great run in defeat. Afforded a lovely run from barrier one. It was against him at the business end. Needed the run to come sooner."
Reece Jones (Juja Kibo): "He was super. I thought he was going to get there and win. Credit to the winner, kept on toughing it out. Awesome effort."
Winona Costin (Sun 'N' Sand): "Just had to do too much work from the wide barrier. Took a toll late."
