Progressive three-year-old The Sprinkler appears destined for better races after he upstaged his more fancied stablemate Out Of Square in the Magic Millions Racing Rewards SA Three-year-old Plate on Racing Rewards Race Day at Murray Bridge on the weekend.
The Sprinkler, who is owned by Price Bloodstock and his breeder Kambula Stud, was given a perfect ride by Lachlan Neindorf, stalking his stablemate before overpowering rivals in a driving finish to record his second win from just four starts.
"It's good for a homebred like him to win a race like this, it's very valuable,'' Chantelle Jolly said post-race.
It was a similar situation in the Magic Millions Racing Rewards SA Two-year-old Plate when the Phillip Stokes-trained Matahga was able to deny the Jolly stable a feature double when he defeated Mostly For Show.
Coming off an eye-catching debut when he came from well back to run second behind Golden Horizon at Morphettville, Matahga was solid in the market after the scratching of his more fancied stablemate Ground Control and then too strong in the run to the line with Jacob Opperman in the saddle.
"He was very good on debut, he's just a horse who takes a lot of riding to get through his gears, he's a nice horse,'' Kerrin Stokes said.
"He's progressive, he'll go to the Oaklands Plate next start,'' he said.
The impressive season continued for Sir Now, who proved too good for The Great Baby, while Chris Bieg looks to have found himself a nice horse following the impressive local debut of former New Zealand galloper Chance Taken.
Given a gun ride by an in-form Felicity Atkinson, Chance Taken proved too strong for Turned Loose and Rubini.
"That was very satisfying, a big thrill for a new bunch of owners,'' Bieg said.
"I was quietly confident he'd run a nice race and wrapped to get the result,'' he said.
Lachaln Neindorf took riding honours with a double when Extra Hot made it successive city wins for Peter & Belinda Blanch, Neindorf moving back within striking distance in the SA Metro Jockey Premiership, trailing Rochelle Milnes by six.
