Waller wins again in The Lakes
Unlucky mare finds the line in Wyong feature.
Chris Waller has nailed the second running of the Saturday January feature at Wyong with consistent mare Chica Mojito taking out the half million dollar highlight, Lakes Mile.
Waller won the first edition of the 1600-metre event with Waterford in 2025 and, in line with that, Chica Mojito ($17) notched her second career win in 24 starts.
Add to that mix 12 minor placings including an unlucky third placing in the Group 3 Belle Of The Turf (1600m) at Gosford on December 28, it might be a matter of what could have been with the five-year-old's record.
"She got a bit of traffic in the home straight but she's been crying out for a win for a long time," stable representative Darren Beadman said.
"She got the conditions right today. A good fast speed and presented well today.
"It was a good confident ride by Andy (Adkins)."
Chica Mojito won by two-lengths over stablemate Mare Of Mt Buller ($14) with Gallant Star ($8.50) ¾-lengths away in third.
Beadman was also pleased with the effort of Mare Of Mt Buller but added that Adkins' ride won the race overall.
Race favourite Know Thyself ($2.35) struggled for clear running after straightening and was unable to quicken to retain a placing.
Chica Mojito was to be sold at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale in May last year but was withdrawn.
Since then she has only finished outside of the placings on one occasion.
