RANDWICK May 5

Randwick A Grass; Heavy 8

15 Heats – 2 x 1200m (2 Open); 5 x 1050m (3 Open; 2 2YO); 8 x 740m (2 Open; 4 2YO; 2 Maiden)

A strong session with some excellent trials despite the heavy conditions, not the least being the crack sprinter SCHWARZ.

FARNICLE (Waterhouse/Bott): Unbeaten Farnan youngster looks set for the Brisbane carnival after winning his first trial since his debut win six weeks ago. Had no trouble picking up the leaders and running strongly to the line with plenty in reserve in his 1050m heat (65.49; 35.98).

GRAND IMPACT (Price/Kent): He's won five of his 12 starts and will surely be adding to that record after a strong win in his 740m heat (44.63; 34.06) in his first trial since his Wyong/Rosehill double in December/January. Tracked widest in a line of leaders and had no trouble gaining the upper hand over the last 100m under a soft ride.

MANAAJEM (Peter Snowden): Tassort filly proved costly when failing at her second start after an impressive debut at the provincials. She's better than that as she showed here, cruising through her 740m heat for an effortless win under a big hold while running fast time over the last 400m (44.74' 33.90).

MATIMA (James Cummings): Confident this Lonhro colt is a good prospect for Godolphin. Won his only start at Hawkesbury last month and had plenty to offer in his 740m heat 45.42; 34.69) finishing an easy third under no pressure.

SCHWARZ (O'Shea/Charlton): His second trial win as he prepares for his final career start in the Doomben Ten Thousand before he goes to stud. Dominated the fastest 1050m heat (64.36; 35.28) working well within himself to win hard held.

SIGNOR TORTONI (Ron Quinton): Maiden gelding by Too Darn Hot was placed twice from his first three starts early in the season and he will go on with it this prep after looking a class above his rivals with an easy win in his 740m heat (44.95; 34.37).
