Scholtz's Say
Trial Watch Review: 15th July 2025
Chris Scholtz reviews Sydney trials at Rosehill on July 15.
Inside Grass; Soft 5
12 Heats – 3 x 1030m (1 Open; 1 Maiden; 1 2YO); 9 x 900m (3 Open; 1 Maiden; 5 2YO)
A good session featured a high class import and promising trials from a number of rising three-year-olds.
MOIRA (Chris Waller): High class imported mare with seven wins from 1400m to 2200m and a G1 Breeders Cup win to her credit is ready to improve on her only local start when she took on the G1 Doncaster Mile first-up in April. A lovely fresh trial saw her finish second in her 900m heat, finishing off under her own steam that is sure to bring her on nicely as she prepares for the spring.
WOOTTON WAY (Chris Waller): Zac Lloyd took this Wootton Basset filly back to last in her debut trial over 900m before showing obvious talent to finish off under a hold for an easy fifth in the heat dictated from the front in slow time by SAVVY HALLIE (56.36; 35.76). Keen to see how she progresses with experience.
Another impressive trial by the import COLOURFUL EMPEROR. A winner in Ireland and Hong Kong under the name of Keepupwithmyempire, he hasn't raced for 14 months but is going well for the Ryan/Alexiou stable with this easy win in his 1030m heats (63.32; 35.56) following up his noted Rosehill trial win on July 4. He's obviously getting the work to have him ready for a good first-up performance.
There was plenty of depth in the 900m heat won by RAVENCLAW (55.13; 35.00) with the strong closing efforts of PERFUMIST (2nd) and BAUHINIA (6th) positive signs for the future.
