Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) 2025

This Sunday June 1st will see 18 3yo colts line up to run in the 92nd Tokyo Yushun.

Favourite at this stage is Croix du Nord, the beaten favourite in the Satsuki Sho (2000 Guineas) which was a bit of a rough race with many runners encountering traffic problems.  Croid du Nord is a son of Kitasan Black and will be ridden by Yuichi Kitamura. The horse was the 2yo colt of the year in 2024 and much is expected of him, which is why he's on 2.5.

We are however going for Masquerade Ball, a son of Duramente, who was third in the Satsuki and one of those affected by traffic problems.  Ryusei Sakai, who is riding in great form, will be on board however they do have a wide draw but the Fuchu track has plenty of opportunities for horses to find a good position in running.  They and Museum Mile are vying for the second spot in the market.

Museum Mile won the Satsuki under Joao Moreira who gave him a great ride and managed to get through the traffic problems.  Another visiting jockey Damian Lane will have the mount this time.

Following on in the market is Fandom who will be ridden by Hiroshi Kitamura and is by Saturnalia and on around 8.8.  Of the other runners we would lean towards Giovanni, by Epiphaneia, with Matsuyama riding and a quote of 12.6.  He's drawn well and was fourth in the Satsuki, the only time he hasn't been in the top two.  Fandom is fast having broken a record in one of his previous races and is unbeaten and gets in to this on the basis of his prize money to date.

This is one of the best days to go racing in Japan and the weather looks like perfect with a top of around 23 and a light breeze.  There is generally a huge crowd in attendance and the atmosphere is fantastic.
